Today message is longer than usual and carries two purposes: 1) to emphasize God's indomitable love, mercy, and care for us. and 2) How great forgiveness is for the soul.

My husband reminded me I had an appointment. I looked at the calendar and thought I would be late. As a rule, I'm very punctual - so to think I would be late upset me. As I was - um - speeding down the highway, I decided to call to let them know I was on my way. By the Grace of God, I looked up in time to see I was heading straight toward the oncoming car. I swerved back in my lane, and no one was injured. Immediately, my thought went to:

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

Then of course, the rest of the Psalm followed -

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadth me beside the still waters;
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
For His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; For Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of my days,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.

The forgiveness I refer to, was my being able to forgive a relative for hurting me. She had started treating me badly and I had no idea why. When I found out, I was so hurt. So daily, I would repeat the 23rd Psalm, and when I reached the part "my cup runneth over" I would picture her across from me and share my cup with her. It took a while, but eventually the Lord cleansed my soul of the hurt, and I was able to forgive and forget the hurt.

May this Psalm and my story bless someone today.

I have made mention of my big dog before - well, right now I'm sitting with an icepack on my swollen hip, and a BIG bandage on my arm. Bear and I got home from a walk (my daughter walks him) and I was letting him out of the car - small suv. His leash in my hand, both hands up to close the back hatch - and he saw a rabbit. Before you could say 'jack rabbit' I was flat on the cement driveway.

The ladies at church were studying James, and once before when I fell these words came to mind: James 1:2 "....count it all joy when you FALL into troubles" it goes on to say why - "knowing that the testing of you faith produces patience." My faith in the Lord can only keep increasing because though my hip is swollen, I'm walking so NOTHING IS BROKE. Praise the Lord. That is particularly relevant when you are aware that I am 81.
