12 Disciples – the real meaning
Learn Biblical Hebrew online
Jesus Calls the Twelve

In the Gospels, the first thing Jesus did in beginning his public ministry was to appoint the Twelve. Jesus called twelve ordinary men – fisherman, manual laborers, and tax-collectors – to become his inner circle of followers. This was not an easy job. Jesus demanded that they leave their families and become part of his life on the road as a healer and preacher. We call these twelve devoted followers “disciples.”

What did Jesus call his Disciples?

However, Jesus would have referred to these men as talmidim. This Hebrew word comes from the root LMD למד meaning “to study”. From this we learn that the disciples were above all students. They demonstrated their devotion to Jesus by sitting at his feet and listening to him preach. Unsurprisingly, the disciples referred to Jesus not as “Messiah” or “Savior”, but simply as “Rabbi”, meaning “my teacher” in Hebrew.

Do you believe that Jesus spoke Hebrew amongst his disciples?

Rather than the more common Aramaic... Or more universally used Greek...

Interesting piece... Always like these...

Don't know will have to ask him when we get to heaven. Anything else is just a guess.

On the path you're on you're not going to make it.

Just makin' observations. Jesus said a tree is known by its fruit...and yours is rotten.

Rotten grapes make for some excellent wine Parky...

All about the brewing process...

No offense, but I think your fruit might be a bit on the sour side... More water and increased exposure to sunlight will help with that

He's not judging...

He's just observing and describing what he sees...

It's a great loophole...

And I'm describing the truth. And I'm not trying to step on your toes. I'm trying to step on your heart so you'll see the truth.

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 1 John 1:6

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 1 John 2:22
