Genesis chapter 33

Forward

In this chapter Jacob and Esau meet after twenty years. When Jacob first left, Esau wanted to kill him.

Verse 1 - 3

Jacob is under the impression that Esau is still angry about the birthright. I am a living witness that nothing covers transgression like 1,000 miles and ten years. Esau has forgiven Jacob. For the past twenty years, God has been blessing Esau. Unnecessarily, Jacob divides his children and wives and handmaids and the gifts.

Verse 4 - 11

Esau runs to Jacob, gives him a hug, kiss, and cries when they meet. He then meets Jacob’s handmaids, wives and children. He doesn’t need the gifts, but Jacob begs him to take them, so he does.

Verse 12 - 14

Esau wants them to travel together. Jacob is cripple. He also has infants and young children in his children and flocks. He says he will meet Esau in Seir but never does. Jacob and Esau have made peace.

Verse 15 - 20

Esau leaves some of the flock with Jacob. I assume he keeps some to feed himself and his men. Esau goes to Seir. Jacob goes to Shalem. El-el-o-he-Israel means God is God of Israel.
