If or when the SHTF, everyone and his sister and brother will be out hunting will they care about silence? Not then. Soon there will be nothing left to hunt, it happened during the Depression too. There are times though when you want it and silencers or suppressors really don't work like in the movies or on tv. You'll still hear the report alerting everyone around you. If the just in case is a person, you might want a bottle of lye also.

I thought it was lime that dissolved bodies fast. Guess lye would work faster. I really don't want to make cheap soap and that's what lime would do. I did do a little research once, but that's 40 plus years ago now. I had to bury two horses once, about a year apart, and added 20 or maybe 40 pounds of lime before I covered them up. Dug them up a month or two later and only a few teeth and bones were left of the one buried in Summer. They were about 900 and 1200 lbs. So lime does work fast depending on the temperature of the ground. Buried one during the summer and the other one in early Spring or late Fall and when I dug her up you could still tell it was a horse but only from the larger bones and teeth, the body was decomposed. The only reason I dug them up was that the ground had sunk about two feet and I decided to peek before I releveled the area.
