Jimmy Doolittle an me.
Recently I commented on a piece about Jimmy Doolittle. People have asked me to tell more about my contact with celebrities so I am writing this here.
Shortly after the raid my father became his attorney. Col. Doolittle and his fellow pillots had started a freight airline called "Flying Tigers."
As a child during WW 2 my friends and I played war games. We had dug fox holes and built an air raid observation deck on top of a building. We took turns being leader. The one in Command wanted to be MacArthur, Ike, Doolittle and other heros. Because of what he did we called him "Doalot"
In 1952 my twin brother David and I went to dinner with my father and Col. Doolittle was at the table with us.
During the meal my father asked us to tell him about our games, but to tell him what we called him.
Like so many giant peope whom I have met he replied that hw only doing his job.
My father had written the draft of the Japanese Constitution and was being given an award by the Japanese Government. He told me that my father had spent do much time working international peace. I replied by saying that "he was only doing his job." He stood up and for everyone's attention and said that we may have another William Logan Jr, named Dwight because I had remembered what he said when he learned we had nicknamed him "Doalot."
