Gout for a week

I've had Gout for close to a week in my left knee, very painful.
The local VA "ER" located in a new 2$Billion hospital was of no help.
Had to make 2 trips to the local University Hospital ER (Aurora, Co.) and was very impressed by them.
I really do believe that some 3rd world countries have better "ER" facilities than this VA.

I couldn't step into the tub to take a shower for a few days so my old cat Sam has been trying to cover me up!

Drink a lot of water - all the time, not just when you have a flare up. You might still get flares, but they may not last a whole week if you keep yourself hydrated. It seems to work for my sister who has had gout attacks for several years now...they only last a day or two now. May or may not help, but I know when she does have a flare (usually in her feet) she can't walk. She told me once that she would rather be in labor than have a gout attack - and she has four kids! Hope you can get some relief.

I think that a dog or a cat you've had for a while and treated good can tell when you don't feel good.
Does that sound ridiculous?

When the Nurse at the ER ask on a scale of 1-10 what is your pain level--with gout in my knee it is a 12.

I am sorry to learn of your condition. I know how painful the condition can be. I hope you get better soon.

Have you tried apple cider vinegar? 3 tablespoons in 8 oz of water 4 times a day will balance the acid in your body and reduce inflammation. It is natural and will not harm you in any way....try to find ACV with mother, it works quicker. Most folks experience relief in about 24 hours. after this flare up, adjust your diet to more alkaline to prevent it from happening again.

I hear you! My sister said it was like she had a thousand needles stuck into her big toe...and she's not far from the t***h. Gout causes uric acid to crystallize somewhere in the body - usually around joints - and those crystals are stabbing at the nerves around them. That's why she was told to drink a lot of water - to flush out those crystals.

Dogs, in particular, are very sensitive to their owners needs and moods. Thats why they can be easily trained to alert their owners before the persons seizure starts.
