My only trouble with saying that we are a Christian Nation is because we are not. The Founding Fathers were cognizant and very adamant against establishing a particular Christian sect. They had come from or were ancestors of the tribal warring, suppression, and persecution between denominations. They were united and convicted that would not happen in America. If a liberal had made such a provision today, he or she would be labeled a "minion of Satan." The Founding Fathers were well aware of what would happen if this new and fragile republic were to fall into the hands of some dominant religious group; they made provisions.

Today, the Founding Fathers would be castigated and condemned for their actions. The GOP and many Conservatives take the separation of Church and state as the diabolical attack by socialist agitators, an attempt to undermine our culture, God, and our morals. The Left did not start this supposed "war." The generals of it were the Founding Fathers. Many seem only to like the Constitution when it supports their h**e and personal agenda. Example: a person who appears to be obviously guilty getting off on a technicality. That "technicality" is not some liberal device but the well-reasoned Law of the Land, and that as patriots and simply Americans we swear to uphold.

Wasn't separation of Church and State viewed differently at that time?

For instance.. Was the Bible not taught in schools?

It was not about Bible in schools but Bible in government.

Yes, the Bible was taught in school as a regular class. Today even a Christian youth group is forbidden from meeting in a school property.

I know... Back when I was in high school students were penalized for handing out candies with Christian messages on them...

It's rather insane...

One can simply choose not to participate...

Agreed, but what the government is now doing in the States is a violation of the First Amendment. It violates the freedom to practice one's religion unhindered. That is also a Constitutional guarantee.

Part of my high schooling was in Montreal. The Bible was on the Curriculum. When we moved back to the States, I openly argued Biblical standards with some of my teachers. No one thought to shut down the arguments at that time although Bible was no longer taught in school.

Speaking is not so good anymore but I can still read fairly well. It's been a long time.

Being linguistically inclined allows one to experience the world from different frames of reference...

Some fascinating studies have shown actual changes in personality when an individual switches languages..

Other than German and French are there any languages you're familiar with?

I can read most Northern and Western European languages except Portuguese, Catalan and Basque. I have a passing familiarity with Russian and Japanese. I don't consider myself to be fluent in any language anymore. When I had my cardiac arrest, I suffered hypoxia and it damaged my language and memory areas. I can still get by but haltingly.

In order to respond to you, I have to have the response page open and another copy of your actual post open. Like I said, I get by but have nothing to brag about.

I'm sorry to hear that... I can only imagine how much more piercing your posts were before the attack...

What provoked your interest in languages?

Growing up with three languages was a strong push in that direction.

I imagine....

I only began truly learning a language when I visited Mexico... Before that I honestly believed I was linguistically challenged...
