Romans chapter 7

Verse 1 - 4

Following the law will not save anybody. This present life would be better if we did. But this world will be destroyed. Baptism symbolises being buried with Christ and raised in newness of life.

Verse 5 and 6

To be successful we must not only avoid negatives, we must actively pursue positives. The law consists of the negatives we should avoid. Read the word of God, and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart to find the positives to pursue.

Verse 7 - 13

Faith triumphs sin. Abraham’s faith was counted for righteousness 400 years before Moses received the ten Commandments from Mt Sinai. Those who trust in their own righteousness are finger pointers and false accusers.

Verse 14 - 16

We are all sinners. This is the age of the false accuser. If they can’t find something they will make something up. We have adulterers pointing fingers at homosexuals. Only God can fix this.

Verse 17 - 20

Following God should be difficult. Like David in 2 Samuel 24:24, we should not offer to God that which costs us nothing.

Verse 21 - 23

As a disciple of Christ, you will find yourself on the storm tossed seas of life. The winds will be blowing, the seas billowing, and the boat tossing and turning. Yet, it will seem like Christ is asleep. Your faith is being tested. If God doesn’t test your faith, how will He know it is any good?

Verse 24 and 25

Jesus is the answer.
