If Scripture Is Sufficient, Why Are So Many Professing Believers Looking for Something More?

(Justin Peters is dead on in the video - just over a minute long. And this is not meant to discourage reading books.)

Today the shelves of Christian bookstores sag under the weight of devotionals, guidebooks, and manuals purporting to help you hear and understand what God has to say to you personally. Wildly popular books like Experiencing God and Jesus Calling encourage believers to look beyond the confines of Scripture for fresh words from God. Others train God’s people to interpret dreams and personality tests to gain divine insight and instruction.

We recently asked Justin Peters about this persistent desire to hear from God outside of Scripture—a desire that seemingly permeates the evangelical church. Here’s what he said.

Another reason why so many "professing" believers are looking for something more...they don't want to hear the truth.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires. 2 Timothy 4:3

The Bible tells us that to understand the Scriptures, we must approach it "in Spirit and in Truth" and we are told by Jesus himself that HE is "the way, the truth and the life". I'm afraid that most believers don't want to do the work necessary to commune with the Holy Spirit to have the Truth revealed, preferring to let someone else do it for them.

Jesus Christ is a PERSONAL Savior......................unavailable in bulk or bargain prices.

You are right about that. We humans tend to want to take the easy route. Been guilty of that many times.

I really like that last sentence and may borrow it.
