A Mean existence: Keep life within a reasonable range of comfort, safety, and control.

But if we are grounded in Scripture, we cannot soar with Spirit. Objections by all duly noted.

The way of Christ is radically different than conventional wisdom and contrary to worldly values. Try to get that: Christ is radically different than conventional wisdom and contrary to worldly values. Think of any worldly wisdom and value, and they all just seem reasonable and just given the state of our world and how to survive. Not to do so will always seem irresponsible, naive, or ill-advised.

Comfort, safety, and control are worldly, and those that love the world like this or in anyway are at enmity with God. (Sign on a marque at church: “If you are prosperous, build a longer table and not a higher wall.”) You will not usually get this from any pastor. Just as they focus on the gay community and not the divorced in their own congregation. Who pleases the passed plate?

The radical nature of Christ and Grace is domesticated to suit the freedom and prosperity of America. No one is really going to press “love your enemy,” no one is really going to press, as indicated, what Jesus clearly stated about divorce, no one is really going to press even “love your neighbor.” Oh, there will be sermons about it, yet the crowd is left to decide who are there neighbors. Mexicans? Muslims? Liberals
