Genesis 27 chapter

Verse 1 - 5

Isaac is old and blind and near death. He loves to eat what Esau kills when he hunts.He is ready to pass the blessing. He wants Esau to hunt for game one last time before he blesses him. Esau sold the birthright to Jacob in the 25th chapter. Rebekah overhears the conversation between Isaac and Esau and makes a plan.

Verse 6 - 10

Rebekah wants the blessing to go to Jacob. She has Jacob select a kid for her to cook. And trick Isaac into blessing Jacob instead of Esau.

Verse 11 - 17

Jacob doesn’t think the ruse will work because he is smooth whereas Esau is hairy. Rebekah has Jacob put on Esau’s robe, put goatskins on his hands and neck, and cooks a meal for Isaac to eat.

Verse 18 - 29

These verses explain how Isaac blessed Jacob instead of Esau. At first Isaac has doubts. He knows his son’s voices. He becomes convinced when he eats and drinks wine, and smells his son.Isaac blesses Jacob instead of Esau.

Verse 30 - 40

Soon after Isaac blesses Jacob, Esau comes for his blessing. When Esau finds out Isaac has blessed Jacob, he asks his father to bless him anyway. The blessing Isaac gives Esau say his dwelling shall be in the fatness of the earth, but the manuscripts from which the King James bible was translated say away from the fatness of the earth.

Verse 41 - 45

When Isaac dies, Esau plans to kill Jacob. If Esau kills Jacob, Rebekah will kill Esau. To avoid this, Rebekah has Jacob leave to find a wife.
