Has a category 5 ever hit American soil since the categories began being used? I also have never heard of a hurricane hitting American which was a category 5. But I could be wrong. Can anyone name an example?

Both Dorian and Katrina were NOT category 5s when they hit. Katrina was a 4 and Dorian a 3.

His original statement was: "I don't remember there ever being a category five." When it was pointed out that there have been several category 5's during his adminatration he changed the statement to include "land" knowing that puppets like you would run to his defense.

As for Cat five hurricanes that hit the US we have Camille, Andrew, the unnamed Labor Day hurricane so he was wrong no matter how you want to spin it...

Yes there were 3 category 5 hurricanes making landfall in the United States in the 20th century. The last one 25 years ago. But other than someone whose job involves weather, rescue, or who experienced one of these, how many people would have that info in their memory.

If you look beyond the single sentence you quoted, Trump was clearly speaking of the United States, not the world. That he didn't know of the total of 3 hurricanes hitting the USA in recorded history, is not a disaster!

You people just don't get it. Trump's complete statement was: "I'm not sure if I have ever heard of a Catagory 5."

That was the statement that you are defending. The land part was added later when someone pointed out to him what a blathering i***t he is because there have been 4 category 5 hurricanes since he took office. And you people are going to defend him to the last man. Well good for you but now you all look like i***ts for protecting your I***t in Cheif! And the thing is, you aren't even getting paid to do it...

It is you who doesn't get it. Trump doesn't talk with detailed precision. Since the conversation was regarding a hurricane which was heading toward our shores, he obviously was talking about hurricanes which hit our shores. Do you really believe he was making a precise analysis of the history of hurricanes? He is well known for plain speaking. Why would he suddenly speak intellectually instead of plain talk?
