Legalizing marijuana is a mistake

Does America need more junkies? Do you want to share the road with a truck driver driving a 50,000 pound load while smoking a joint? Do you want the surgeon operating on you to be high? How about your child’s teacher? If you want to work a high paying job, you can’t go to work while you are high. The government may legalize marijuana. But if you go to work while high, you will be fired. Before you are hired for most jobs, you have to pass a drug test. In most situations, you need a clear head and quick reflexes. Drugs hinder both. In my life, I have seen some lose everything they had because of drugs. I have met some who were able to keep a job and hide their drug use. What I have never seen is drugs help anybody.

You are driving like you are high on dope Fred. Your first premise is that America doesn't need more junkie's. By that, you are implying that Marijuana is a gateway drug yet you did nothing to prove that premise true. How many junkies started out as pot smokers? Some statistics here would help. You then blather on about surgeons and truck drivers smoking pot but you did nothing to state why that would happen. We have several states where Marijuana is legal--have surgeons and truck drivers in those state developed a higher rate of being stoned than elsewhere? And in my life, I've seen people lose everything because they are alcoholics. That doesn't mean banning alcohol is a good idea.

I think it should be available for medical reasons. I know some disabled vets that it helps immensely where other drugs did not.

But I don’t think it should be available to buy like cigarettes.
