It is winnable, but the powers that be are not willing to do what it takes so bring troops home.

Agree ther is no reason to be there and the safest part there was no reason to go their in the first place! After almost 18 years our enemies our stronger then when we started and we have lost tens of thousands of our finest men and women and probluy 40,000 severely wounded! Mostly to keep our arms manufacturers booming and what better way to test out weapon systems and use them on people

I agree with one stipulation, when we leave, the Taliban will take over in less time than it took the NVA to take Saigon when we left Vietnam. Many South Vietnamese who were loyal supporters and employees of the US military were not evacuated when we left and were murdered, tortured or jailed for years by the NVA. There are now thousands of Afghans who have welcomed and supported our Troops for nearly two decades. They believed us when we told them we would purge the Taliban and make Afghanistan a stable democracy. They will suffer the same fate when Trump surrenders and the Taliban takes over. We owe it to our Afghan friends to offer those that will be put under duress when we pull out refugee status in the United States and a path to citizenship if they want it. The most shameful part of our police action in Viet Nam was turning our backs on our faithful allies, it should not happen again.

I have seen a pattern emerge in the last 6 years; every time the US talks about leaving Afghanistan, Americans die.

It's time we admit failure ( or lie to ourselves if necessary ) and get the hell out.

The time to leave was really after 2 years of being there. We were attacked from Afghanistan, so go destroy the place. I got that. It was the reason I joined again (Iraq no), but after those two years whether we had or hadn't done all the damage we wanted (barry made it so we couldn't, he sold better arms to Mexico than we had). It's way past time. Where do you think most of the lost arms and legs are? I got out with just severe neurological damage.

Pipelines and poppy fields! Many veterans have spoken out saying that's why were there...protecting them! Lot of mineral resources too. The Chinese are there and through almost s***e labor have built rail roads to give them access to those. Look up pipelines Afghanistan!
