Baptist college kicks out transgender student after surgery

GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) — A 21-year-old transgender man says his private Tennessee college kicked him out after he got breast reduction surgery.

Yanna Awtrey tells the Tennessean that his Baptist missionary parents wanted him to attend Welch College, previously known as the Free Will Baptist Bible College.

He says he was outed to school officials, who ordered him to conceal his gender identity and attend Christian therapy.

He started transitioning this spring, and says he thought everything would be OK if he kept the surgery secret.

But student services Vice President Jon Forlines emailed Awtrey the day of the surgery saying Awtrey couldn’t return to student housing. The school paid for a week in a hotel, then brought Awtrey before a disciplinary committee that cited a “sexual perversion” rule for the suspension.

Too funny. Are you guys one organism? All five offered the same objection to my post; in turn, I offered the same. Besides that it was all I had to say, hoping others would focus on what they felt about the topic rather than what I said. Just stop the diversions and misdirections and comment on the thread, if you have a thought on it?

Members get alerts from OPP if there are comments concerning their responses. I alerted all of them individually with the only response that I had. Why all the hostility?

Hard to understand what you mean, but do you want me to respond to you by addressing another in answer. You deserve my only answer to the question, as did the others. I can't hold a Press Conference.

Some people like vanilla and some like chocolate. Thanks for the link, I like to make up my own mind about things, can't do that if it's filtered for me. Looks like you got your visceral response.

You like to make your own mind about things: how in my simple response, which you seemed to not understand, influence your thinking or try to persuade you? Nothing was filtered. I gave the topic and expressed my opinion. The topic was that a person attending a Baptist college was kicked out: you have no opinion on that as is?

As to a visceral response, snarky is a better description. Had I not written the topic, I would have directly responded to the title of the thread. Why should it matter to me what another said? I have my own opinion. Instead all of you--all of you--went after me. And I agree with what you think. Funny.

You're an oddball Mr. Grinch. A Subject with no text is not normal. Didn't know you were conducting an experiment on us without our permission, I feel so used and unpaid.

Didn't you know? With conservatives, it's always better to 'transgender' away from any subject concerning their religion or ideology. They don't like to explain how their religious rights supersede an individual's personal rights. Unless it is their personal rights (say, they were denied something because it violated Islam) they just don't understand it...

Another LGBTQ forcing their agenda. Sigh. It's getting old, and they need to go back into their kitchens and drink a cup of coffee and move on in life.

The conservative ideology is built around the affirmation by others of one's personal beliefs. How you come by these beliefs (Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, got splattered with shit from an outhouse) doesn't matter--what matters is that others affirm what you believe and the more affirmation the more certain that your belief is true. So to answer your question, yes they are one organism much like the Borg...

How was LGBTQ agenda forced? They were simply leading their lives.

The student was simply leading their abhorrent life, which is against Christianity...in a Christian School...that uses the Bible as a guide to spiritual, eternal life.

No they are not. They are trying to force their beliefs on the general public. They sue. They attack bakeries and small Christian businesses, they try to force Christian businesses out by pushing, pushing, pushing their agenda to the Supreme Court.

We Christians will prevail...you will see.

Unreal. I really have to explain my response? What on God's good earth would be the natural reaction for a Christian School but kick him out, hence the 'Duh!' For the other response, 'And...?' means there is no story here because the college is not only well within its rights to do so, but obligated by faith to do so. 'And...?' means why is this a story at all?

What did you think I meant?

Well, if thee is no story, then why did you bother to post anything at all?

Wouldn't it be more merciful to euthanize these terminally ill perverts?

The terms 'Baptist' and 'college' are contradictory.
