Amos chapter 8

Verse 1 - 3

This reminds me of the parable of the fig tree. Jesus said to learn it, but He really didn’t teach it. It is in the 24th chapter of Jeremiah. When God gets ready to bring the pain, He gives warning.

Verse 4 - 10

The ephah was a unit of volume. The shekel was a unit of money. Even today, we spend more and more for less and less. God is not happy with this. Jesus got a whip, and drove the money-changers from the temple. From noon to 3 pm, darkness was on the earth while Jesus was on the cross.

Verse 11 and 12

Man lives not by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Understanding God’s word is as important to our minds, lives, and souls; as food is to our bodies, adding not only years to our lives, but life to our years. Food sustains the body. Good decisions determine our place in life. When you understand the bible, you not only avoid negatives, you actively pursue positives.

Verse 13 and 14

Israel disapppeared because nobody understood God’s word.
