They would still be homeless unless they could get used to sleeping 8 or more to a room the employer pays so little! I went in one home where around a dozen lived it was utterly filthy and trashed it was summertime and hot there was a dead deer h*****g on the porch covered in flies that's what they're eating because they weren't paid enough most sent all their money home except for enough to buy their Budweiser beer. They always drink Bud because that was an easy name to learn to say in English

There is an untold number of abandon buildings the government could fix up and use as a halfway house for people that are just getting back on their feet and at some point, an agency could help them find affordable places to move to when they are back on their feet. whoever owns these buildings if they are not in use and being left to rot and fall apart the government should put these building to good use whether the owner likes it or not

We are shipping the immigrants to sanctuary cities, but we are not helping our own citizens. Why? If we can afford to spend billions on detention centers, why can we not do as bggamers suggests and find affordable places for these people to live. Granted some are on drugs but some are just poor, hopeless and have no way to get out of their condition. The city officials need to start this ball rolling with matching funds from the federal government. We can come up with a plan for the homeless in all of our cities by taking positive action. The money that goes into these programs would have to be controlled, monitored and audited by a staff of accountants working directly under the supervision of HUD secretary, Doctor Ben Carson. Federal Monies given to program should not be given to the politicians who would be tempted to siphon them off.

The big problem in California is affordable housing driving renters into the street. Low wages and lack of affordable housing is the cause. Housing is much cheaper in Mississippi and with a “fair wage” they can make ends meet. How do the i******s make it. Their wages get added to their food stamps and Medicaid and they get by. One family in California get to stay in a homeless shelter by night, must leave in the morning, walk the streets, then check in after lunch. Everything they own is in their backpack. Their kid goes to school but falls asleep in class because he is up all night due to the noise in the shelter. The teachers set up a cot so he can get some sleep during the day. No one should live this way. The parents are good candidates for a jobs program. Where do they go to get help. Too many people especially the city government, ignoring the problem. So sad!

The bigger question is what happened to the time dad could work and support his family and mom could stay home and raise the kids and they had a little money in the bank??
When that stopped we started down hill!

The federal government could not allow the homeless to remain in the west coast cities because the land and property values are so high, the cost would be astronomical. The homeless would have to agree to move. Those not able bodied but mentally ill or addicted would have to undergo a medical screening and placed in a rehab facility.

Let’s fix the problems in our inner cities before catering to the i*****l i*******ts. The Democrats don’t want that because they have written these people off and want to spend the money where they can get kickbacks or political contributions through r****d contracts.

They support their narrative that the GOP don’t help the poor all while they siphon off the money for their own benefit. Baltimore was given $8B in federal funds in 2017 and $6B in 2018 in Elijah Cummins D-MD District and none of that money went to the poor for the basic services like picking up garbage. The politicians cannot be trusted to have fiduciary responsibility. V**ers in these districts need to wise up and give Republicans a chance to help them out of their dilemma. What have they got to lose?

We need to encourage a change in culture enlisting the members in the communities to work together to clean up the neighborhoods, cooperate with the police, plant flowers, inspect buildings, sort those out that can be reasonably repaired and level the rest. We need to hold fathers of children responsible for child support, educate young women about the problems of promiscuity, importance of religion, and education. So much money in this country is wasted with more to come such as the “Green New Deal” initiative!

And how much will middle class taxes go up to pay for this boondoggle? The only way the program would be of benifit would be if poor people who want housing would be required to provide sweat equity to pay for the housing. Not only doing what repairs they can, but sweep the sidewalks, wash windows and do what ever else they are capable of doing, not just for the home they get but to maintain the neighborhood where this home is located. When the area is a dump, no one gets motivated to clean up their house if it is the ONLY one in the area that is clean.

They will have to provide the sweat equity to make it happen. It would have to be a deal between the community, city officials, state officials and federal government. A new business model would be required. Repeating the models of the past were, by and large, complete failures. Wouldn’t implement any program on a grand scale until the details are worked out. Implementation of the program should be on a small scale to make sure the program is efficient and effective and those in the community are directly involved. The cities, counties and states and businesses should fess up the bulk of the money which is to their benefit with some funds provided by the Federal government.

Put the homeless in the blighted areas and give them the hammers, shovels, and wh**ever else they need. Provide them the necessary materials and you solve several problems:

They have a job fixing up a property
They clean up the blighted urban areas
They have a place to live.
They get a job formerly belonging to an i*****l i*******t
Tent cities disappear from the landscape.
Cities restore garbage pickup.
Police keep the area safe.
Churches reopen and create an atmosphere of community.
Schools and educational programs upgraded.
