Can future mass shootings be prevented? This is not a political question

After every mass shooting, the same handwringing, lamenting, and finger pointing begin.

I personally don't think that future mass shootings can be prevented, any more than minor crime can be stopped.

But there are some deep thinking and well intentioned members who may have other ideas.

But please, be realistic, and keep in mind the freedoms and liberties everyone in this country has UNTIL they commit a crime.

No way to prevent them all. Gun control laws only work on those who are willing to obey the law. Those who are not will find a way to obtain the weapons they desire. All it takes is enough money.

Heres the thing. Everyone heard about London. Theres no guns. So terrorists used knives, cars and trucks. Bad people do bad things. People who were fed drugs as developing children do bad things (ADHD DRUGS, ETC) Personally I want to be able to defend myself if bad people are doing bad things. We have had tightened gun control laws for decades. Things continue to get worse. Because criminals, bad people and lunatics dont follow laws. Good people do. And are left defenseless. I dont know what the answer is, but its sure become glaringly obvious it's not gun laws. Maybe consequences might work. We have become a country of judicial disaster, where if you have a good enough excuse you can get away with anything.

Wow. Neither did I. I’ll try again.

The issue is mass k*****g! When you label the issue as a gun issue, you take the wrong path,
and it will not lead you to the destination that you seek.

There are trucks, rocks thrown from overpasses, pipe bombs, pressure cooker bombs,
car bombs, and a thousand other forms of IED's that can, and do, produce mass k*****gs.

The simple fact is that we have a few hundred very disturbed and dangerous psychopathic individuals
in this great nation of over 300 million individuals.

The problem is that we have to find a way to identify, and incarcerate, these individuals;
BEFORE they k**l us.

Eliminate all semiautomatic weapons. It won't end mass shooting but they will be so few it will seem like it...

We have mass shooting in the hundreds every year--so many that only the worst one make the news. Yes, bad people do bad things but it's ridiculous to hand them the instruments in which to make those bad things worse.

While you're at it, why don't you "Eliminate" illegal drugs too?

Yes. Get rid of gun control legislation in the urban areas. Criminals think twice if they know someone is "packing."

So you are equating guns to addictive drugs? Interesting comparison and you do act like people who are addicted.

How's this for a solution, a ten thousand dollar fine per semi-automatic weapon you are caught with. Catch you again and the fine will be twenty thousand dollars and three years in prison.

This won't eliminate semi-auto's but it will make them so cost-prohibitive and dangerous to keep that their sale will be but a trickle.
