Genesis chapter 21

Verse 1 - 3

What God has promised He is able to perform. Sarah is going to have a child at the age of 90. Abraham names the child isaac.

Verse 3 - 8

Isaac was circumcised when he was 8 days old. An infant’s blood doesn;t clot until 8 days. Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 when Isaac was born. When Sarah first heard of God’s intention that she would bear a child, she laughed and denied laughing. Now she realizes God is in control and is dynamic.

Verse 9 - 13

Read the 4th chapter of Galatians.

Verse 14 - 21

Hagar and Ishmael have been put out for the mocking in verse nine. They have been given a bottle of water. Because Ishmael was Abraham’s son, God blessed Ishmael’s children. After they drink all the water, Hagar places Ishmael under a bush, and leaves the child. She doesn;t want to see the child die. God intervenes and opened Hagar’s eyes. She sees a well, drinks and gives water to her child. Ishmael was thirteen when Isaac was born.

Verse 22 - 32

King Abimelech can see God is blessing Abraham, and desires a covenant of peace.between Abraham, him, his children and grandchildren. Abraham brings up a well that Abimelech’s servants took by force. Abraham dug the well. He had the ability to bring underground water to the surface. Israel leads the planet in water conservation. When the Jews were given Israel in 1948, it was a desert wasteland. Today, Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. It is the only nation in the Middle East that exports grain.

Verse 33 and 34

Beersheba is a border town.
