A spoiler, of sorts. This is my theme for this thread: It is an easier and softer and more rewarding way to be a Conservative, and that is praise, not sarcasm.

My friend, Dale, who founded the party right of that Mongol Lord, was my traveling company up thru Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas. I had an unwavering diet of Fox News and other Conservative News and talk shows, plus his steady stream (almost non-stop) of praising Trump and all things Republican, and more passionate attack on all things Left. I did not fight it or even object to it: I wanted to surrender to it. And there was comfort there, real comfort, in that thought.

What I realized, at least for me, it is hard and uncomfortable to be a liberal (though I think of myself as independent) and not surrender to being Conservative. To give you an example. Oklahoma is so Red and deeply traditional they have this saying: “Here, you can be a Democrat or a Christian.” That sort of sums up the trip everywhere we went. And I consider myself a Christian.

Almost all wore their patriotism on their sleeve, so proud and loving of our country. It sort of embarrassed me; I felt something on an intruder. And all I met seemed to be good and decent people. We ate in one restaurant in Texas where they put a tiny American f**g in your meal, and a sign on the wall that read, “Remember when you bless your food to bless our country.” I was very moved by that simple devotion.

There is an ad from long ago about skin bracer after shaving and the guy says, “Thanks! I needed that.” That is the summary of my trip. Maybe some on the Left here will say I was brainwashed, if they comment all. But that is not the case, in my eyes. I simply got to clearly see what is at the active heart and mind of a Conservative and clearly saw why I often get a lot of flak.

This little vacation helped me to know the flak was justified, in their eyes. My views were, in a way, obscene, after all I had witnessed of these good people. I will, I feel, be far more understanding of the feelings and views of Conservatives, yet, as much as it so appealing, I cannot join those ranks.

God bless America and we the people.

I guess we will see. Hope your enlightenment lasts. I do have to disagree that it is conservatism that easy. Conservatism is simple. There is a difference. There are universal, God-given instructions of right and wrong, all that is necessary is to follow those instructions, (which quite frankly is rarely easy, but it is simple.)

If I did that trip I wouldn't by energy drinks ever again and try to save up the money I just wasted, how boring you could have visited The MX Factory Jason and Tyler and learned something useful.

No one wants you to surrender but be a little open-minded as for us we feel as if our traditions and Christian heritage is being burned at the stake and every step we take is like going through a line of beaters. so I will say we tend to get our backs up.I enjoy hearing someone else's take on some and like you I don't like the flak BUT we do enjoy the DISCUSSION I,m glad you enjoyed your trip through middle America have a great day

Just a little information most born southerners are smoother and take a while to go off the deep end BUT a lot of people that come from other states and have been southernized(I'm one from Idaho 30 yrs ago) still contain their other state temperament so you get these laid back people and then you get pistol whipped is as nice as I can go but then they remember their southernized side and they say have a NICE day which means youve totally screwed mine up but with a southern twang

Good point about easy in general as far as right and wrong but that misses my point about "easy."

My favorite Southern saying is, "Bless his (or her) heart." It usually comes at the end of multiple bad rumors.

You know you've had it when you hear "bless your heart" delivered with a sweet smile.

I totally get that, what you are saying. It is called the Gauntlet, a line of beaters. Which most that I met would call the Media.

I think I am very open-minded, maybe not quite omniscient, but impressive. And then this little vacation plainly showed me I did not know the heart and mind of the average American. I failed to see the ordinary decency and goodness that comes with being in a free country.

I accepted Christ 30 years ago. I do not tolerate Liberalism, yet I see a need for this view.
