Question, who pays tariffs?

It's a simple question: who pays tariffs the country or the consumers? I ask because Trump said China has paid us 16 billion in tariffs but that 16 billion came from payments made by US consumers, not China.

Now the real thing I want to know is how many cons here think that it's china paying tariffs and not them whenever they buy something made in China?

You want actual reality answer or Trump alternate reality answer?

I will give you Trump alternate reality answer, Xi Jinping pays out of pocket so that Chinese corporations aren't hurt by inflated prices in the U.S. discouraging American interest in Chinese goods.

Awe hell, I have time, I'll give you reality answer too, American consumer pays the tariffs imposed by trump.

Now, who pays the for the tariffs that China imposed on let's say agricultural products?

American farmer in lost sales due to those tariffs. China just started importing the majority of their agricultural products from elsewhere. We are definitely winning this trade war, our wallets have never been lighter.

As the trade war escalates, China will absolutely be paying a higher price.

In the case of Trump’s tariffs, U.S. prices will rise but not by much and US demand will decline but not by much. Chinese exports to the U.S. will fall but most likely be replaced by imports from producers of competing products in other countries.

Give Trump a break yeah? - the briefing on tariffs lasted longer then 30 seconds, so Trump missed the other 59 minutes, 30 seconds.

How about an on the floor observation??

Couple weeks ago wife and I bought new stove and refrigerator..

Seemed like a must do before prices rose a/c tariffs.

The sales lady said prices were already pushed up but would be more in the near future..

Also sales were not so wonderful for this very fact.

So her sales pitch was that the ones we bought were in stock before the tariffs went into effect and so were a great bargain..

t***h?? have no idea. but like every good sales person she seemed to be spot on..

She also said that stocking level when all were subject to tariff pricing would be lower then the last few years to hold bank cost down.. the place uses floor plan finance like a car lot..
so fewer appliances sitting on the floor, the less interest paid to the bank..

But the point is that WE the consumer are paying the tariffs trump put in play..

to think other wise is easy to do if your only input is orange..

Look at your increased dollars going elsewhere.. that is the answer that matters, not what you are told by the wonderful orange con..

The top buyer of US soybeans used to be China, now they have gone to buying from Argentina, Bazil and others. the US spent decades building this trade for US agriculture.. it will require more decades to get it back after the trade war, if we ever see it return..

The U.S. imported a record $539.5 billion in goods from China in 2018.
By contrast, the U.S. shipped a much smaller $120.3 billion in goods to China last year.
Why the U.S.-China trade deficit is so huge:
Here’s all the stuff America imports

trade was never designed to be a dollar for dollar agreement..

We may buy a million parts from China, those parts go into products we sell not all back to China, but many nations around the world.. the value of those parts to the buyer in the US is only partly shown by the amount paid to the supplier.. having those parts makes the buyer able to sell and profit world wide..

Trade... You and I as tax payers paid over 600 million just to minnesota farmers to make up for the trade lost by agriculture for the tariffs which lost market share in the billions.. Most for Soybeans..

Yes, we the taxpayers will be paying more..

find the national figures.. only the beginning..

The "entire explanation" is BS.
Didn't like my explanation so put the blame on me.
