Supreme Court allows partisan e******n maps, gerrymandering in North Carolina, Maryland
, USA TODAY Published 10:11 a.m. ET June 27, 2019 | Updated 10:17 a.m. ET June 27, 2019

SCOTUS has declined to weigh in on gerrymandering in the past, but they didn't close the door on it, and it's a different Supreme Court now. USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that partisan e******n maps drawn by North Carolina Republicans and Maryland Democrats are constitutional despite their one-sided nature.

The 5-4 opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts and joined by the court's other conservatives said federal courts may not intervene to block partisan gerrymandering.

"We have no commission to allocate political power rand influence in the absence of a constitutional directive or legal standards to guide us in the exercise of such authority," Roberts said.

Associate Justice Elena Kagan decried the ruling on behalf of the court's four liberals. "Of all the times to abandon the court's duty to declare the law, this was not the one," she said. "The practices challenged in these cases imperil our system of government."

The ruling addresses the way e******n districts are redrawn once every decade in most states – a system dominated by political self-interest that has grown more intense every time the Supreme Court declined to tame it.

John Roberts is a radical. Trump did not nominate him.

No, I don’t. We need a balanced Court. I’m still furious about the assassination of Scalia. His wife must have been blackmailed or she’d have demanded an autopsy.
I’m not certain I could ever agree with you on anything.

In other words, because President Trump's two appointments aren't left wing activist judges, they need to go?

If you portsiders are so dead set on changing this country into a one-sided left wing totalitarian regime, you really have your work cut out for you now that we have a real Patriot in the Oval Office.

Wouldn't it be easier if y'all simply relocated to a country that is more suited to your needs, rather than f*** America up for those of us who love our country just the way the founders set it up to be?

Cuba has lovely tropical climate, been there, and I understand Havana's a great resort town these days. And you get "free" health care!

From what you post, maybe Venezuela's just the ticket. Awesome place to go on a dietand the Maduro type of government is exactly what you seem to yearn for. 😁

As the old Norsk folk tale tells us,,, nothing good can come of the right wing criminals..

Once upon a time we had people who worked for justices who worked to maintain our once upon a time of fairness and e******y in our nation.. now with this decision along with citizens united; we are bout done with that wishful idea..

Patriot in the white house?? Who the heck did you find?? someone hiding in the tunnel system?

me leave my country? Heck no.. I would much rather work very hard to remove the right wing evil who are plundering my nation and get all the orange supporters on one single boat headed for Russia.. Maybe capsize the darn thing, but no loss..

While it would be such a great improvement to get rid of those like you who find the orange criminal the best of their fragment of society, most other Americans are not as boisterous as i in declaring the petulance upon our land..

With your fascination with all thing totalitarian, maybe you should pack your bags today and get your stench out of America.. home of the brave and land of the free.. you are not brave and you don`t like free..

Why do you stay and fill the county with the orange cloud your cult exudes..

See what you say about "fragments" of our society when the real American people speak on 3 November 2020.

You remember a past time of American History that never was. Most of the time, partisanship was far worse than now. I read a lot of history and historical novels. You are imagining something that never happened.

This is one time in a row, of late, that the Court actually followed the Constitution.
If you don't like what's going on in your state, change it at the state level. Simple.

Problem is, these lefties don't like our Constitution and our liberty, and they don't like the Tenth Amendment -- unlike the founders and those of us who love our country, while lying and telling us they love America as well, what they really want is an overbearing, all-powerful, invasive central government that taxes us all to death, virtually owns and micromanages the country and the people.

The Frost and the rest of the "progressives" would obviously be in Seventh Heaven if our country was modeled after the U.S.S.R.

Accounts of the bitter political hatred between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The Guilded Age by Mark Twain. Accounts of how Abraham Lincoln was elected as President. Accounts of Andrew Jackson's Presidency when he regretted not h*****g his Vice President John C. Calhoun over Secession. Give me a time when " Once upon a time we had people who worked for justices who worked to maintain our once upon a time of fairness and e******y in our nation.. " this was true.
