Do You Think War with Iran is Likely?
By David Jolly - June 22, 2019

The country that we refer to as just Iran is formally known as the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Although Iran has a president, Hassan Rouhani, who actually has limited powers, the real leadership of Iran is held by Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, who has held that position since June 1989, making him the second longest national leader in the Middle East after Sultan Qaboos of Oman.

Iran has long clashed, politically, ideologically and religiously, with the United States.

On November 4, 1979, Iranian students (or so they claim( stormed the US embassy in Tehran, the nation’s capital, and took 52 US diplomats and citizens hostages and it was obvious that they were fully supported by Iranian government. The hostages were held for 444 days.

Barack Obama and the Secretary of State John Kerry tried to win the friendship of the Iranian leadership by negotiating the infamous nuclear deal. As it turns out, it was just like we tell our kids – that you can’t buy friends and Obama didn’t. Iran’s growing hostility to the United States along with their violations of the nuclear deal led President Trump to withdraw from the nuclear deal. The US withdrawal re-instated many of the harsh sanctions against Iran.

Tensions between Iran and the US have been escalating in the past couple of months, with our intelligent sources reporting that Iran has made credible threats against the United States, our military in the region and our allies.

Since those threats were made, Iran has begun targeting oil tankers as they move through the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

In the latest incident, two oil tankers were rocked with explosions and US sources have video of Iranian gunboats placing magnetic mines along the hulls of one of the tankers and then trying to remove a mine that didn’t explode.

President Trump has responded by deploying a major aircraft carrier task force, along with a task force of fighter planes to the area.

I heard one person report that tensions and the possibility of war between the US and Iran are currently as volatile as someone dropping a cigarette into a tank filled with gasoline.

So, how would you respond to these two questions if asked:

1* How likely is it that Iran is responsible for two torpedo attacks against oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman – very likely, somewhat likely, not very likely, or not at all likely?
2* How likely is it that increasing tensions in the Middle East between Iran and the United States will lead to war?
Rasmussen Reports asked those questions to likely v**ers and here is how they responded:

Most v**ers suspect Iran of the recent torpedo attacks in the Gulf of Oman and say there’s a good chance of war for the United States in the days ahead.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 68% of Likely U.S. V**ers think it’s likely Iran is responsible for two torpedo attacks against oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, with 36% who say it’s Very Likely. Just 15% say Iranian involvement is not very or Not At All Likely, but slightly more (17%) are undecided.
Fifty-seven percent (57%) believe it’s likely that increasing tensions in the Middle East between Iran and the United States will lead to war. Thirty-two percent (32%) consider that unlikely. However, this includes only 17% who see war with Iran as Very Likely and four percent (4%) who say it’s Not At All Likely. Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.
Most v**ers across the partisan spectrum think a U.S. war with Iran is likely, but Democrats (64%) are more convinced than Republicans (50%) and v**ers not affiliated with either major political party (56%).
Do you agree with the general consensus or are you more optimistic and believe that war can and will be averted?

My question is this – If war breaks out between Iran and the United States, will it lead to World War III with Russia and China siding with Iran?

If the United States went to war with the rest of the world we would win. We are the only super power and only nation capable of producing an army anyplace on Earth in a moment notice. Our Navy would control the seas as not only the largest but most advanced. Any country we felt a threat would be pounded with munitions from our war ships. Our air power would cut off the supply of oil to the world why we produce our own from here in the states. Our homeland would remain untouched as no nation has the ability to reach us with any type of assaulting army. Even trying such a move would put their nation at risk

If nukes are used then forget everything I said. As far as Iran, that nation has been a thorn in our side for decades. I just wish our war ships when Iran does one of their little mock attacks our ship would put the fear of God in them turning these little boats to splinters. But I don't want war just a small battle to let them know who they are Fing with.

I believe John Kerry, directly, Obama, indirectly, through Kerry & others are doing their best to instigate a war, passing information to Iran on everything mentioned in Congress & giving Iran directions on how to trap President Trump into a major confrontation just before the e******n. They are that desperate to make Trump lose. I believe they are giving every bit of communications they can get their hands on between the US, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, & Israel to Iran, & are keeping Iran informed daily of weapon deployments in every US base & on every ship that could respond if a conflict arises.

I think Obama, personally, is trying to convince European nations to not participate if conflict arises & not to let the US use any European bases.

I do not think China will get involved. I feel stronger about Russia staying out of the fray. Contrary to what most people in this country, especially the liberal/l*****t, we have much in common with Russian people. Putin is not the Russian people. You may not like Putin, but he is not about to help China increase their sphere of influence.

The sanctions will work, if we keep turning the screws, start sanctions all countries still buying Iranian oil, supplying any technology, metals, chemicals to Iran, last sanction, food. Obama had a chance to help the Iranian people, blew them off, got many k**led who were depending on US help.

Do You Think War with Iran is Likely? br By David ... (show quote)
