Exodus 34:14 "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Yahweh, is a jealous God"

Idolatry is the paying of divine honor to any created thing.

A walkout occurred at an Alaska government meeting Tuesday after an official ended a prayer by uttering the words “Hail Satan,” local media reports.

The official, Iris Fontana — who also happens to be a member of the Satanic Temple — delivered an invocation ahead of the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meeting Tuesday, sealing the prayer with “Hail Satan.”

She called up Satan for Assembly members and the audience:

"Let us embrace the Luciferian impulse to eat of the tree of knowledge and dissipate our blissful and comforting delusions of old," said Fontana, who the Assembly identified as a member of the Satanic Temple. "Let us stand firm against any and all arbitrary authority that threatens the personal sovereignty of all or one. That which will not bend must break, and that which can be destroyed by truth should never be spared its demise. Let’s cast aside our differences, to use reason, logic, science and compassion to create solutions for the greater good of our community,” Fontana said. “It is done. Hail Satan.”

Almost a dozen people walked out in protest, including Mayor Charlie Pierce. Additionally, a number of protesters stood outside, local media reports.

Technically, the satanic prayer was permissible due to pushes from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alaska.

KSRM reports:

In October, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled that the borough’s previous prayer policy violated the State Constitution. The lawsuit was brought on by the American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska. The previous policy only allowed certain groups to deliver the invocation.

The borough then passed a resolution to amend their policy at their meeting on November 20 to broaden the scope of eligible invocation providers to better reflect the diversity of beliefs in the borough.

One of the protesters flew from Pennsylvania to protest the satanic invocation.

“These are just a few of the instances where God has defeated Satan,” William Siebenmorgen said, according to KSRM.

"Whatever the results of the June 18 Rally of Reparation, God will be pleased with our public prayers of reparation,” he continued. “We want God’s blessings on America, not Satan’s curses. Lucifer is the eternal loser. Let’s keep him out."

The Satanic Temple made headlines in April after the IRS announced that it recognized it as a "church," thereby giving it tax-exempt status.

Shabbat Shalom, Singularity,

Please don't mock bahmer. He's candidly honest, which is so refreshing on OPP.

Is that an Arachne with two misappropriated legs, or are they pulling double duty, and if so, is it your original creation?

I hope you're doing well.

I hope you're doing well.

Felicitations, it is Monday, and we both woke up!

Do you mock me with your greeting? I'm sure you don't intend that. It seems sometimes folks are just too dedicated to seriousness.

This symbol is used to invoke the blessings of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, for those who have been touched by its noodly appendage, ramen.

It has been a long standing internet meme used to demonstrate the futility of outside interpretation of another's inner deeply held (traditional or not) convictions and beliefs.

Are you aware that modern day "Satanists" are godless, atheists, having chosen the term for their specific religious philosophy expressly so that they may initiate the conversation regarding godless religious philosophies at the forefront of most discussions of such particulars?

Bahmer and I have conversed cordially from time to time. I have not found him humorless. However, if he should be somewhat unusually sensitive today, sincerely felt apologies regarding this, are offered.

Hi Singularity,

It is Monday, but I have not awoken, rather, I haven't yet slept.

The greatest joy of retirement is having no set schedule.

I responded to your post on Saturday (the Sabbath), just as I always greet family and friends on that day, Shabbat Shalom (Sabbath Peace).

Sabbath literally means "to rest," it is a wish for a day of peaceful rest, or restful peace, as you will.

Internet "memes" ...just recently looked up the word after seeing it consistently in online conversations... unless it's labeled a "meme," it's a graphic like any other.

Because I have celiac disease, I don't do ramen, but whatever one sees in that calamari/octopus/arachne resembling creature, it's a cartoon, and a leering pasta on the Sistine chapel may be humorous to some, but definitely mockery to others.

Those who now claim to be mere atheists, having appropriated Satan's name only for the attention it engendered, without any affiliation with him may well have deficient imaginations, as well as vocabularies, and be lying.

Unless Satan has acquired a sense of humor, appropriating his name, without giving him the worship he believes due him, is a game changer, for they have voluntarily entered into his ballpark.

They had best be seeking the Lord of Creation while He may be found for there is neither salvation nor spiritual protection in any other. (Isaiah 55:6)

In the flesh, we here below are all fully equal in our humanity.

Seriousness and humor both have their place, and on rare occasion, are almost interchangeable.
