AOC - "Turn Rikers Island into Solar Panel Farm"

I'm in awe that this person is a member of our Congress. She wants to turn Rikers Island — the site of Rikers Island Prison Complex — into a solar panel farm. She said: “When we come together, and we decide that we’re going to shut down Rikers and we’re going to turn it, not into a playground for the real estate lobby and not into a playground for the rich, we’re going to t***sform it into a public good for all people...if you put just 25 percent of Rikers island and cover it in solar panels, we can close every toxic power plant in New York City that was built in the last two decades.”
What she doesn't realize is that these solar panels are great until they wear out. They contain highly toxic chemicals and combined metals which nobody has figured out how to safely separate out and recycle or dispose of safely. It'll cost far more on the back end just to have them replaced and safely stored until they figure it out.

I still like the idea of geothermal energy as an alternative. Between solar and geothermal we may very well have something worth pursuing.

I wish someone would tell California about your insane toxic solar panels, because all new buildings in CA by 2024 must be powered by solar.
