These two sources are about the same, I added the second one just in case OPPs Progressives/Liberals/Democrats do not like the first link.

Despite the rhetoric that welcomed migrants at the start of the year, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration has stepped back from handing out humanitarian visas and is placing more restrictions on migrants, and upping detentions and deportations. “The situation is extremely serious, and we don’t know what to do anymore,” says Andrés Ramírez, head of Mexico’s refugee agency COMAR. In fact, the organization estimates that ….

"When the first caravan came, the whole town was dedicated to helping them — people were handing out food and clothes. Now no one wants them here,” says Marta Fourzale, owner of a local hotel and a lifelong resident of Tapachula.

Tapachula, a border city in Chiapas, is on the front line of the impending crisis. This border town has for decades seen a slow but steady stream of migrants from beleaguered Central American countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. The caravan in October last year was unprecedented, but most of those migrants were just passing through, abiding by the idea of safety in numbers. But people kept coming, in smaller groups. Today, not only are there Central Americans in the queues for attention at COMAR but also residents of countries such as India and Angola, Eritrea, Ghana, Cameroon and other African nations. And my friends, many are not friends of the US or Mexico.

My opinion, for what it is worth, we to include Mexico are approaching the problem in the wrong way. We can continue to battle for funds to build a wall, and eventually we will have a very tall wall...... I am betting on Trump! In the meantime, the tide of people has to be stopped. We have to do more than play the part of the Dutch Boy putting his finger in the D**e. The cause of the problem has to be addressed and it will require the Central American Presidents to meet with our President and figure out how to to help these nations. Hopefully we can come to some mutual agreement (not war or outing current leadership) that can give those nations a hand up. So, perhaps in exchange we could negotiate a sell of produce or lighter tariffs on imports/exports..... these nations are rich in agriculture.... But, the problem is they have little excess that they can export.... they consume more than what they can grow. Better field management (education) could help change this. Perhaps we can give them a break on import taxes as they buy the majority of their nontraditional products (cars, appliances, electronics, etc.) from the US. Education will help (trade schools), investments into their business is another sustainable alternative, perhaps we can divert funds that is already ear marked for humanitarian efforts in other nations. My thought, we give billions to nations that frankly do not need, they are "developed" nations like Israel, Germany, Italy, and other European nations. I am not suggesting that we allow those nations to become dependent on the US or Mexico, I am suggesting a "hand up" not hand outs.

This was off the top of my head, and I know there are deeper thinkers on OPP than me. And someone will point out that any money invested will wind up in the pockets of their government officials or military.... I accept that, but I also accept that these are people who need help. Perhaps the people will realize that only they can change their leadership and running away is never a good solution.

Might be a good idea to bring in farmers to learn how to produce more efficiently.
And others that could learn ways to help their country.
With the stipulation, they return.

I think that education is a real good start..... technical education, not necessarily college. Yes, they also need doctors, nurses, and trained administrators, but the first priority is getting them fed. So, I agree with you wholeheartedly!

As usual, you make too much sense! The giving of money is a waste and a Kennedy type of Peace Corp only sending trades and agriculture Teachers to me would make more sense. As you point out, instead of money, send equipment for more productive agriculture, better roads and infrastructure would help the common people as apposed to the elites in the govts. Education and tools would make all the difference in the world to those Countries. Mike

One thing i have learned is that you can't throw money at this problem. First place, the money will never get to the people. The government from the top down will steal it. They all belong to a religion that prohibits them from not having as many children as they possibly can in their life time. What little money they might have extra, will always go to the church. Conversley, the church just sent $500.000.00 to a fund to help the caravans. So, they are helping reach the United States, ever wonder why??
give it up they will still come, they have to be stopped at the river...

You proved my point "And someone will point out that any money invested will wind up in the pockets of their government officials or military..." So, what would you do to stop the people from making the effort? Or do you see the root of this problem differently than I?

I am so tired of the USA being given all responsibility for these people leaving their countries. It's always that we aren't doing enough, that we must help these nations become prosperous so their people will not want to leave. Every year we have been giving Mexico abd each CA nation hundreds of million of dollars. A few months after the first caravan of thousands arrived in Mexico, I remember reading that the USA was giving $10.5 BILLION to be split among these countries to be used to improve their economy to keep their people at home. This was done, in great part, at the behest of Mexico, which I view as just another example of Mexico manipulating the USA for its own interests and, this time, though Mexico got the larger part of this monetary gift, they were smart to include their CA Hispanic neighbors. So, the USA has helped and helped these nations, but NOTHING ever changes there except their corrupt rulers and elite get richer. Now, each of these 4 nations receive tens of Billions of US dollars every year from remittances of THEIR citizens living here at OUR expense. So, each year, each of these nations get $hundreds of millions from the US government plus $tens of billions from their citizens that US citizens are financially supporting. BUT, obviously, to many people, we are not doing enough to help these corrupt nations; therefore, it is our fault their people are flocking to our border demanding entry. I am sorry if my words here offend any of you, but this whole insane behavior of my country offends me beyond words. The USA has, due to actions of our congresses/governments for decades, a national debt that our country can never pay and one that no one in our government actually a single thought to except to raise the ceiling in order to borrow more. We have no money to get and keep our millions of homeless off the streets, to get our many mentally ill off the streets and into institutions offering care and assistance, to improve the lives and medical care of our veterans. Our elderly (of which I am one) that worked all their adult lives and, out of every pay check, paid the preminums of SS abd Medicare demanded by our government for their retirement. Now, we are told, repeatedly, that the money is running out. Now, our congress has had plenty of money to give these programs to i*****l a***ns, refugees/asylees and other foreign noncitizens because they were old or claimed disability (disability even for some children), has had plenty of money to give all necessary life services for free to tens of millions of greedy s**mming American citizens (many for generations) AND tens of millions of both legal and illegal foreign noncitizens and their anchor babies. The USA has plenty of money to provide medical care from colds/coughs to pregnancies/births to heart surgeries and organ t***splants to ALL foreign noncitizens at not one dime of cost for them. The USA has plenty of money to give hundreds of billions every year to foreign nations and global organizations ftom which we receive little, not even gratitude, just criticism that we do not do more. So, I have no patience for anyone saying the solution to our southern border crisis is that WE must give to these countries to improve their economies so their people will not want to leave! That is the biggest damn lie we are so often told, and often by people who should know better. Think about it!! These nations are acting in their best interests which includes encouraging their poor, burdensome citizens to illegally (or by lying asylum claims) to move into the US, where they will be taken good care of and they can send money home to help their countries. Now why would any of these nations voluntarily give up tens of billions of US dollars annually, AND why would they even want to stop their bottom-of-the-barrel citizens who contribute NOTHING from moving into the US and, therefore increasing those remittances?? The answer is they wouldn't. Protecting the USA, its borders, its sovereignity, its culture, its identity is the responsibility of NO ONE BUT THE USA. It is NOT our job to financially support other nations and their people, but it is OUR OBLIGATION to protect our own citizens from the destruction of pur country by a massive migrant invasion of corrupt third world cesspit nations and their needy, greedy, s**mming people, whether illegal or legal. I WANT MY GOVERNMENT TO STOP GIVING MONETARY AID TO OTHER NATIONS, TO STOP LETTING THEIR PEOPLE INVADE OUR HOMELAND AND STEAL ALL WE HAVE, TO STOP MEDDLING AND FIGHTING WARS WHERE WE HAVE NO BUSINESS. I WANT MY COUNTRY TO QUIT HELPING FOREIGNERS AND HELP ITSELF AND IT'S CITIZENS. I want my America to be here for Americans and our American descendants, NOT given over to the greedy s**mming exploiters of the world. NO, no more help to these nations. It is time to help ourselves or we will eventually have no USA for Americans. So sorry to go on. I apologize.

No need to apologize for wanting to help our own people, veterans, seniors, homeless, mentally ill.
US citizens should be first in line.
The first step onto US soil all i******s need to be returned home.
No excuses.

I don’t know how you see the problem but I can almost guarantee you that there outside forces funding the i******s. These people are leaving their respective countries because there no jobs, they cannot make a living.. How do you explain the new baby strollers, did they push these things 1500 miles? If so what brand are they ? They have to be the best ever. What about new backpacks, new tennis shoes, pretty fair clothes but not much of them. Where are they eating? How do they pay for it? Trust me there is definitely something going on that the American people need to know about. Money is not the answer, I know these people, I lived for six years. Saw all kinds, tried to help many but can’t. They piss away anything you give them.
