I agree totally. Many children aren't gifted in math or literature, but they're very educable in laying carpet or putting up sheet rock. There are many trades that are begging for applicants that pay well. Teach them a good work ethic and a sk**l that gives them autonomy.
And actually many trades are paying entry level people fairly well, the problem being the numbers of contractors that don't increase pay nearly as much as it should be. Entry level labor pays $15 an hour, and a lot of highly sk**led tradesmen aren't making more than $20 an hour.

Tom is old. Sorry Tom.
When I started elementary school, the girls had to wear dresses, except on snow days. It didn't last long as I recall. But, then, I wasn't really paying attention. I was busy drawing dinosaur pictures on my Big Chief tablet.
Yep, I remember very cold knees. Dinosaurs huh, I always knew you were a Neanderthal LOL
I bet you had your daughter watch the Land Before Time,
One of my favorites for the kids. I never knew they kept those up for decades until I saw a title with some umpteenth number.

I am a caveman. My kids tell me that frequently. So does my wife.
She really likes it, I think.
Well, except for the being clubbed on the head, and d**gged by the hair part.
I'm working on refining that one.
And, I remember that show. Never made the kids watch it though. They had animals to take care of, and chores to do.
Did you have the Big Chief tablet that was for teaching you how to write?

Wow Tom, where were you brought up, or did you go to a parochial school?
I graduated from Klamath Union High School-- The place had a moat around it for reals no kidding.

No, I'm not familiar with that. I'm only aware of your daughter what other Kids do you have?

Your kidding LOL So did they lower the bridge to let you guys out?
That looks like beautiful God's country, you were lucky to be brought up there, at least by nature's standards, don't know about the rest.

I also have a son. You would like him. He's a wind farmer.

The moat was an irrigation canal that surrounds the school we had bridges. Klamath county where i grew up is a bit behind the times as far as the rest of the country. Old school still prevails there like every other rural area of Oregon.

Nothing wrong with old school.

Ohh that's right, you have mentioned this, now I remember. He's a wind farmer huh, so does that mean you get along?
Just kidding, I'm sure you do.

Does that mean girls can still only wear pants when it's cold? I hope they've at least have gotten off their knees.
Why did they build a moat and not simply a well? Interesting? At least they did let you leave when you wanted, now the schools are so fearful they're operated like a prison.
Funny story, once visiting another state, our hotel room looked out over the town and not too far away was a prison, but my husband didn't know it was a prison and assumed it was a high school and commented on the height of the fence. I laughed and said it's not a high school it's a prison, see the barbwire and the towers? LOL, it's just funny what things now don't register right away.

Yep I grew up that way and I am that way. I dress in bib overalls and keep my hair cut short. I get dirty at work and I can drive a tractor a forklift --backhoe etc. I like beer and BBQ and home made liquor. . My cousin has a nice still and he uses our great grand pappys recipe--no kidding. My brother gave him 15 thousand pounds of sugar from a truck wreck he pulled in---- I should write a thread about my cousin Sam-- He was named after a civil war General according to him but I know he was named after his dads favorite horse--A horse I rode a lot.
