We in Iceland value our relationship with the United States of America. It is a great nation with a history they should be proud of. Currently, however, they seem to off wh**ever medication their doctor prescribed for them. Iceland wishes to support our friend in need. In that spirit, we are sending teachers over there to educate and assist rural communities infected with ignorance and superstition. What we will not do is allow ourselves to be invaded by that ignorance and superstition which is propagated by televangelists.

How funny...

We could all do without TV preachers. They are the pro wrestlers of Christianity putting on a show to get your money.

I'm an American Christian and, in a way, I have to agree that the televangelists are AWFUL. Many of them (not all) have accumulated staggering wealth and beg for more money every time they're in front of a camera. The prosperity gospel many of them teach is NOT a legitimate Bible doctrine and I can easily understand how and why so many unbelievers are offended by it.
The actual Gospel (meaning good news) is simply that Christ died for our sins.
That's it. The Old Testament pointed to the coming Messiah and the New Testament chronicled his ministry, death and resurrection, followed by the book of Acts, which is the very early church history, then the Epistles that tell how Christians SHOULD behave, and at the end, there is John's Revelation of things to come.
Christians should be reading the Scriptures for themselves and be in a good Bible directed church. One's goal ought not be accumulation of wealth, but service to others. Yes, we need to work to make a living, just don't develop a lust for wealth. The Love of money is the root of all evil. Love God and love your neighbor.

I woke up a few minutes ago. I hope all is well with you and your family. We're going bird watching today near Cape Kennedy . . . there's a huge sanctuary there and the roseatte spoonbills are nesting. They're a weird-looking bird. Personally, I really like the coots best. They're a small, black duck-like bird with a white beak and red eyes. They hang out in large family flocks and always look kike they're having a party! We see all manner of water birds there and some hawks and eagles and a lot of huge, fat alligators. I h**e to think about what they had to eat to get so big!

You think only republicans have a monopoly on faith? I'll feed the hungry and tend to the sick while you protest in front of the welfare office and demand that all those low lifes get drug tested

At least the wrestlers are somewhat entertaining. I once timed a 30 minute segment of a televangelist. The begging for donations took up more time than preaching and commercials combined. At least the WWE gives your kid an action figure or a T shirt or something.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of t***h to this. These televangelists have accumulated massive amounts of wealth which wouldn't be do bad if they did something good with it as did Jerry Falwell and Oral Roberts.

The problem with it is the messenger. You have to take it in the context of all of PeterS' postings.
