Insufficient number of public restrooms is likely the culprit.
A city where you're fined over $300 if you pooch poops but humans are welcome to. LOL!

A good thought. (One of your best ~ bathroom humor takes on a serious note.)

Essentially people if people have only the options of defecating outdoors or in their pants most will opt for the former.

Maybe people should start carrying around poop bags like they do for dogs...

What does that tell us about SF? Or California, for that matter? Does "s**t-hole" sound about right?
28,000 piles of human s**t on the streets of a crowded city? Add the tons of dog s**t and dirty needles, and you've one hell of a disease incubator.

Five hundred well-placed outhouses on every other street corner would be a good start. If other big cities don't have this problem.... Can't wait for Trump to drop off about 5,000 bean burrito eating migrants from 'south of the border'. Do you want to bet the number of "drops" goes up? Did Newsom have a lot to do with this problem? And now he's Govenor? Man, I'm glad I don't live in San fran anymore. Pretty sad when their substitute for a 'map of the Stars' is a 'poop map'.

But on the sidewalks? Come on Kevy, even you would look for a bush or behind a wall but in the MIDDLE of a sidewalk where people have to zig and zag. Even you should be better than that. Mike

No, it's more that the pervasive "progressive" atmosphere inspires pure chaos among those who don't believe in taking responsibility for themselves, there are no really effective penalties for members of their overwhelmingly voluminous undomiciled population when they "misbehave" so all the elements are there for a quagmire of quality of life offenses.
Factor in that a large percentage of the homeless population in SF is a combination of young meth users, totally insane men and women of all ages, over-imbibers, career drifters "who've found a home," habitual criminals, welfare careerists, paranoid schizophrenics and a plethora of other essentially totally unemployable people who are attracted to the city because of its permissiveness and complete lack of obstacles to gross misbehavior, and having all the bathrooms in the world wouldn't make a difference.
I won't even get into the massive population of illegal "immigrants" who pretty much do as they please, knowing they're a protected species.
Los Angeles is much the same, only it's spread out a lot more.
