Luke chapter 18

Verse 1 - 8

God answers prayer. But His instructions on how to pray are being ignored. In Matthew 6:5 -15, Jesus instructs that prayers should not be public There are no public closets. While we pray for God to heal diseases, give us a job, or find us a mate, we need to realize God is in control. Expecting God to answer our prayers, while we ignore His instructions is really a waste of time. The Lord’s prayer is in Matthew 6:9 - 13 and Luke 11:2 - 4. In it, there are no big I’s and little you’s. The only one singled out is God, we are all equal. In Joshua the seventh chapter, because of one man’s sin, the entire nation suffered loss. When Daniel prays in the ninth chapter, he doesn’t differentiate between himself and everyone else. We used to be one nation under God. We are voting losers and failures into our government. If we don’t repent and go back to a patriarchal society, this nation will not survive. We will become an adulterous nation of murderers, liars, and thieves.Stores will be empty, and there will be many shortages.

Verse 9 - 12

We shouldn’t trust in our own righteousness. We are all sinners. God doesn’t move because we are so good but because He is so merciful.

Verse 13 and 14

Those that exalt themselves shall be abased. Those that humble themselves shall be exalted. Christians should lead humble lives until God lifts us up.

Verse 15 - 17

Children don’t learn to teach, but to pass a test. You can’t lead anyone to Christ, unless you have followed Him. Jesus didn’t give the great commission to the Pharisees.

Verse 18 - 23

Similar events are in Matthew 19:16 - 22, and Mark 10:17 - 22. These are three different events. We should analyze and follow the ten commandments. Four are between us and God. The last six are between God and man. Jesus gives the last six, but the tenth is replaced with love thy neighbor as thyself in Matthew, defraud not in Mark. Only five are given in Luke. The one He left out was thou shalt not covet.

Verse 24 - 27

The city of Jerusalem was surrounded by walls containing two gates, a large gate for daytime traffic, and a smaller gate for nighttime traffic. The smaller gate was called the needle gate. A loaded camel had to unload his burdens and get on its knees. None of us can earn salvation. It is a free gift. The things that are impossible with man are possible with God.

Verse 28 - 30

No one can be confident that they are saved right now. Your name can be blotted out of the book of life. We think God is pleased with singing and dancing while we ignore every sermon Christ preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed.

Verse 31 - 34

This is the third time in Luke that Jesus predicts His upcoming death. The first and second times are in Luke 9:22 and 44. In John, after Jesus dies, Peter wants to go back into fishing. None of the disciples got it until Jesus rose from the dead.

Verse 35 - 43

The last miracle that Jesus performed was giving sight to the blind. We can liken this to giving knowledge to the unlearned.
