Luke chapter 15

Verse 1 and 2

The scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees, (they are sad you see), didn’t care for the people that needed help They couldn’t heal and their understanding of Torah had them pointing fingers. They faulted Jesus for eating with sinners because they wouldn’t. In the 9th chapter of John, they excommunicate a man Jesus healed for teaching them. Ironically, the man doesn’t find Jesus, until he has been put out the church.

Verse 3 - 10

God is more interested in saving the lost instead of blessing the saved. If a man has 100 sheep and one is lost, he doesn’t say I have 99 left. He searches for his sheep. When he finds it, He is happier over that sheep than the other 99. If a woman has 10 coins and loses one, she doesn’t say, “I still got 9 left”. She searches for that coin and when she finds it, she is happier over that coin than the other 9. We are all sinners and should repent daily. There is joy in heaven over 1 sinner that repents.

Verse 11 - 19

Prodigal means wasteful. A man had two sons. The younger ask for his inheritance now. After he gets it, he moves out and parties. When his money’s gone, there is a famine in the land, and gets a job feeding smelly pigs.He gets so hungry that he wants some of the slop, but that was for the hogs. There is a switch between you backbone and your navel. When they start getting close together, the mind starts to turn, and not only get you out, but keep you out..Hunger is horrible, but necessary. He comes to himself and realizes his father’s servants eat and live better than him. He plans to ask his father for a job.

Verse 20 - 24

I believe his father anxiously awaited his return. The prodigal son asks his father for a job, but his father will have none of that He orders the best robe, a ring for his son’s finger, and shoes for his son’s feet. He didn’t think he’d see his son again. Now that his son has returned, he kills the fatted calf to celebrate. If your life is too pleasant, you may need to watch out. The fatted calf eats more than the others. It probably thinks it is more loved than the other cows. Until feast day.

Verse 25 - 30

His elder son had been working in the field. He asks what is going on when he hears the celebration. When he finds out his little brother is home and his father is celebrating, he gets angry and refuses to come inside. When his father finds out, he goes and talks with his older son I have been a faithful son for years and I get no party. But as soon as this thy son was come, who wasted your money on prostitutes, for him you kill the fatted calf.

Verse 31 and 32

His father points out that his little brother wasted his inheritance, everything is his. My son is your brother. We should be glad he is not dead.
