How fickle we humans are...

Last night and early this morning my WeChat (social media used in China) was flooded with people expressing horror and offering their prayers/hopes for the people of France.... So many individuals bemoaned the loss of such beauty... Christians throughout China (both Catholic and Protestant) expressed the loss they felt... Many of other faiths or no faith at all joined them in their sorrow...

Later this morning a popular internet star/blogger made a comment that no Chinese should offer sympathies to the French for the loss of the Notre Dame Cathedral as the French were responsible for the l**ting and destruction of the Old Summer Garden during the Second Opium War... He went on to say that patriots would cheer for this event and rejoice in the justice/karma of the destruction of the Cathedral...

While many rebuked him, and called him out for his callousness, there have been a number of anti-French posts circulating on WeChat... And at least one News Caster has brought up the fact that there are still many Chinese artifacts that were stolen duting the Second Opium War still being displayed in French museums...

And it seems that one cannot have a conversation about the Cathedral without someone bringing up the Old Summer Garden...

How is it that such tragedies can serve to bring out the worst in us? To divide further?

Why are we so often unable to grasp these opportunities to unite as brothers in compassion? To put aside old wrongs?

Is h**e truly of greater confort to some in these times than love?

You two Goobers need to wander on out to the pasture and graze.

We appreciate your years of service to this nation and we wish you both a comfortable retirement.

The 'real' world is much too harsh for you gentlemen and although we know you mean well, we can manage it without your wise and respected input.

Now git' yer' rusty butts out of the way while we prepare for greatness.

And keep your weapons ready in case we need your butts on the front line.

How have I been demoted to Goober again... (Although I like the company I am in ...Cheers Slat )

I have never spent a minute in service to your nation... Though I truly appreciate y'all...

The real world is harsh.... That's what makes the forum so entertaining...

Rusty
A bit pale after the long winter maybe...

Weapons?
Frontline?
I doubt the scathing fire of my sarcastic wit will be of much use...
(Aren't you afraid of "friendly fire" )

I'm sorry Duds but, you're a Goober because of the Dudley Do-right tone of your comments.

Being a Goober is really not a bad thing.

Goobers usually have 'one thing' that they are exceptionally good at.

Like the Original Goober of Mayberry, could actually take a vehicle apart piece by piece and then reassemble it to perfect working condition.

And you for instance, you can ride a horse backwards.

That's not how one is supposed to ride a horse?

How else does one remain on guard for friendly fire?

You realize that Dudley is the hero... Never loses... Always gets the girl...

If there is one guy the Chinese really h**e it is the Dalai Lama. He holds them accountable for invading and occupying Tebet. Nixons opening relations with China and ending recognition of Taiwan’s government as the legitimate government of China has proven to be a terrible mistake. We were far better off when the Chinese were eating rice and riding old bicycles; focused of feeding themselves instead of threatening the rest of the world.

However back-handed/off-mark your attempts at complimenting the two of us were, Wolfie, I thank you.

Given your enamorment with the term 'goober,' I wish I had the ability to post Platter's Mr. Peanut. I picture you as a caricature of that particular 'Goober'.

I am curious as to your attitude to the post. China is run by a totalitarian regime and are amongst the most repressive in the world. Countless citizens are rotting and tortured in prison for the slightest infraction against those in power. Corruption is rampant at all levels of government. There is no free political speech or political opposition allowed. Now they are expanding their influence militarily and economically in the pacific rim sub Saharan Africa and South America with no regard to human rights and little regard for the environment. How would we and the rest of the world not be better off if they were kept from development until they adopted a form of government that respected the law and human rights?

Personally, I prefer Corelle dishware as opposed to China. Corelle can be as stylish and is far more durable.
