Yes, it has happened before. You might want to read the book "Nature's Mutiny" by Philipp Blom. This book describes an historic cooling of the earth that occurred during relatively recent history, the "Little Ice Age" of the seventeenth century. You deniers bring up this cooling as proof that modern c*****e c****e cannot be that serious because it has happened before. Blom's book accounts many of the societal changes the "Little Ice Age" caused. We're just at the beginning of seeing what the heating of the earth will do to human society, but what happened when the c*****e c****ed before gives us a foretaste.

How is it we went from g****l w*****g to c*****e c****e, a more accurate description ? As far as CO2 is concerned the problem could be partially corrected, plant more trees !

Plankton in the ocean is supposed to account for more photosynthesis-provided oxygen than land based flora. I'm not sure if this is so; it's something I read that I have not had a chance to check on.

Every organism has an affect on its environment. How is it, that volcanic activity is never brought up ? Methane, in large quantities, is released during volcanic eruptions. It's also a greenhouse gas.

It's just a fairly simple way to do something, to help resolve the problem.

Since our buddy Al already says he invented the internet, what's next? A new style of music? He could call it Algorythym. (I KNOW it's spelled with an I, but this is new music, not new math.)

Since you brought up the Maunder Minimum (1645–1715), what will we name the current solar minimum?

This is such an amazing mid characterization of the book it suggests that you skimmed but actually did not read it.it definitely isn’t a diatribe for or against anything. It recounts the Little Ice Age and shows how the change in climate affected societies.in other words it demonstrates that climate affects human culture and society. Only in the last four or five pages out of 280 does it address the fact that c*****e c****e is affecting and will affect culture now and in the future.

Save your money. The book is a diatribe about g****l w*****g and "the fiction of the free market" among other things. It ends in a polemic about c*****e c****e in our current world.
But as to how intellectual development was impacted by the Little Ice Age, about the only evidence the author seems to put forward is that they both happened at the same time. And as any beginning student in statistics can tell you, correlation does not mean causation.
The author seems to want you to take it purely on faith that the intellectual developments of the Seventeenth Century were impacted by the Ice Age, without presenting any other evidence than that the potato replaced grain crops in northern Europe.
Save your money. The book is a diatribe about g***... (show quote)

You make it sound like these are family farms, when in fact it is largely industry and agribiz. The clear cutting techiques they use are particularly destructive. This has been somewhat moderated lately.

It's not all agribiz. I said industry also. In this country back in the days of the dust bowl, the same type of clear cutting and destroying the topsoil layer contributed to the dust bowl effect. That was just family farms for the most part.
