I created a previous thread backing Jeanine Pirro's question about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D.-Minn.) wearing a hijab in Congress; Fox News disagree

Jeanine Pirro has been off Fox News schedule for two weeks after these comments caused a mighty stir of the teapot: “So if it’s not rooted in the party, where is she getting it from? Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested. Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which is antithetical to the U.S. Constitution?”

I feel the question was not out of a line. Perhaps in a different political climate, a good debate might have ensued between Pirro and Omar to clear the air and possible misconceptions on both sides. Of course, that did not happen. Instead, Pirro also lost several advertisers who pulled out amid pressure campaigns from Media Matters and other left-wing advocacy organizations. The suspension by Fox News is another blow: has it gone PC?

What is wrong in asking whether traditional Muslim garb represents or binds a person to the Sharia Law of Islam? The rules of Congress forbid such headwear: is Omar being disrespectful? Is ignoring this rule a statement, and if so, what is that statement? Is it a 1st Amendment one or something else? People worried about JFK being a Catholic, would his faith influence his presidency? At that time, such a question could be asked, yet it was also used in an attempt to undermine his hope for the presidency.

What say you?

I don’t really want a new discussion, per se, but Trump is absolutely right on the Golan Heights. Sovereign Israel. Get the UN out of there!!! Here, too, for that matter.
I’m sure at least a few on here agree on this.

Hey, I'm an atheist so would be fine if everyone would give up all religious symbolism--crosses, skullcap, etc and then this wouldn't be an issue as everyone would be on the same playing field. So how about it Christians and Jews--if Muslims need to give up their identity isn't it only fair that you be asked to give up yours?

Sounds reasonable, if you give up yours and not ask if we give up ours. A dilemma.

Good thread

I personally don't care for the woman...
More of a Tucker man ...
But her question was fine...
And should have led to a discussion...
The hijab should not be allowed in congress... The rule was established long before the birth of Omar...
As religion is such a contentious matter, all Religious articles and items should be hidden or removed before entering Congress...

Hope you had a good day Rumi...

I agree, except for Tucker: he is a slime of the lowest order. A purveyor of H**e as entertainment. It is a tie with Hannity. No, I give the edge to Tucker; not as smart.

Does any other group wear special clothing in Congress?

No. Verboten! Not even kippahs or yamulkes for Jews. However, our possible change to accept such is not universal. Earlier this year, France passed a law banning lawmakers from wearing any religious garb or symbols. This followed similar legislation in 2010, which forbade the wearing of face-coverings such as masks, burqas, niqabs and other veils in public spaces.

Do you agree with France? Does their legislation against religious garb of any sort reflect nationalism? Remember, in France you must be French to be French. I have a thread on that topic.

Its all or nothing. Muslims should not get special consideration. If they don’t like it too bad.

I don’t think France’s law reflects nationalism as much as they are fed up with muslims demanding special consideration
