There's a sales tax exemption for treating erectile dysfunction in Wisconsin.

The same can't be said for feminine hygiene products.

Sales tax isn't applied to Viagra in Wisconsin, but it is applied to tampons and pads. Birth control, medicated condoms and yeast infection medication are exempt because they are considered drugs.

One lawmaker in that state says the taboo around m*******tion that prevents women from openly talking about their periods may also explain why women are paying extra to manage those periods.

"Women's health has been misunderstood and neglected throughout history," Rep. Melissa Sargent, a Democrat from Madison, told NPR. "Some women are ashamed of their period," she said, adding that she feels the reluctance to talk about it has prevented the issue from gaining more momentum in state legislatures.

That's why she's sponsored a bill that calls for lawmakers to exempt feminine hygiene products from the state sales tax.

I once had a woman who had been in jail tell me she and others with no money would tightly roll toilet paper into a tampon. Seems to me if a jail is going to house females that the authoritys would know they bleed monthly and need sanitary products.

Pity those on laundry detail. Can you imagine how nasty some of that laundry may get if some don't take those extra steps or can't find enough TP when they need it?

The law is supposed to prohibit cruel or unusual punishment. This is a case that should go to the higher courts.

Perhaps women should return to the ancient tradition of having one week per month of socially prescribed paid vacation so that menstrating persons don't come into contact with, or touch the food, weapons or other important stuff belonging to regular folks.....

That’s not conservative. That’s a nutty claim. But it is stupid.

Maybe they should think of the added humiliation of open bleeds when they are incarcerated ! Don’t go to prison! Red is the new black! Or steal a truckload of tampons and become a millionaire in the clinger! Just plain satire!! Lol
