Hi...

My name is Kyle...

I would like to get to know some of the OPP a little better...

I love books and usually have a few on the go...

I am currently reading a Sci-fi Book by Peter Hamilton "The Reality Dysfunction"...

It is my third time through the series and I am enjoying it every bit as much as the first time...

I would recommend it (and any of Hamilton's books) to anyone who enjoys sci-fi and doesn't take it too seriously... A good, relaxed read...

What are you guys reading?

And how would you recommend it/them to others?

Hi Kyle,

I do quite a bit of reading but I'm not big on fiction of any kind. Once in a while I will get on a kick of reading mystery novels like Dan Brown, John Grisham or Lee Childs, but mostly I read political books, both sides. I seem to be doing a lot more reading, crossword puzzles and sudoku since I'm not able to do as much canoeing, kayaking and fishing as I used to do. I'm doing some fly fishing out back now but for shorter duration. I still try to golf once in a while. Have to get a little exercise, you know.

Hi Bernie (?)

My wife is a fan of your authors...
I enjoy soduko as well... Nice way to relax...

Not sure where you are situated, but hope that you are catching your limit (not too fast of course).. I enjoy fishing as well... Often spend the summer mornings with my in-laws fishing the local rivers... Haven't caught anything I would brag about, but rarely go home empty handed...

Couldn't agree more about the exercise... Tennis and badminton are my prefered sports (summer and winter respectively...Although there is an indoor tennis court at the university that I occasionally manage to book time on )

A real pleasure to meet you

Your friend, Kyle

Just recently discovered Lee Childs,, love his books. Big fan of Robert Parker even though he’s gone. Anne Perry’s trilogy of WWI was the best regarding that war. I do a lot of crossword puzzles and play a lot of solitaire. Haven’t gotten into soduko. I love to cook and try to mix it up and make it all heart healthy...Italian, French and Indian some TexMex. Glad to hear some personal things about y’all. Ps. Our priest is named Kyle. Good strong name.

This Anne Perry sounds intriguing.. Will have to check her out...

Solitaire is a great game... Still play it in the office sometimes...
I enjoy cooking as well... Mostly Chinese and Canadian dishes... I do ok with the Indian dishes, but anything middle eastern or Italian comes out wrong....

A pleasure to hear about you as well Carol

Kyle,

Nice to hear from you too. I am in Michigan (1 year) formerly Indiana where I did lots of stream fishing. I plan to do more up here once we get settled down.(if I can handle it) Glad to hear others are enjoying some of the books I have enjoyed. I think the internet has changed much of our habits. Take care.

Hi, Kyle! My name is Marvin. I would like to know more about you. What you figure is right of wrong in this crazy world. I don't do much reading of fiction. Just short stories in the New Yorker Magazine. I do some writing. About what's wrong with this world and how to make it better. I would value your opinion. Please comment on the following:

LET’S PREPARE OUR DEFENSE WITH A MAXIMUM EFFORT !!

A nation can be in only one of three possible states of affairs.

First, a nation can be at war, in an existential struggle, depending entirely upon its defense.

To survive such an embattled state of affairs, a nation must continually prepare its defense.

Next, a nation can be preparing its defense with a maximum effort by using its idle resources to increase and to improve its infrastructure and its most important resource, its people, whose health and education are essential and can be improved most surely by providing free health care for all and free, expense-paid education up to PhD. Such pr********n of defense needs maximum Congressional spending, which needs a maximum effort to prevent inflation, which needs adequate taxation of disposable income but no taxation of non-disposable income, which needs adequate and steeply progressive federal income and estate tax rates.

Such a provident nation would be well-prepared to survive an embattled state of affairs.

Finally, a nation can be preparing its defense but WITHOUT a maximum effort to increase and improve its infrastructure, NOT providing free health care for all and free, expense-paid education for all, being more concerned with budget deficits and tax relief for the rich and their heirs while mired in idleness, poverty, trafficking, addiction, crime, and mass incarceration.

Such an improvident nation (ours!) is ill-prepared to survive an embattled state of affairs.

Citizens opposed to free healthcare and expense-paid education for all, including free trade schools, will v**e for inflation due to sk**led labor shortages, for military recruiting shortages due to poor health and education, and for bankruptcies due to medical costs. V**es against maximum Congressional spending will guarantee destructive poverty, decaying infrastructure, and a sub-optimal defense that threatens our survival in an embattled state of affairs.

A provident nation will not only be the most prepared nation but also the most prosperous nation because that nation’s spending would generate the largest annual federal budget deficit, which is exactly equal to the sum of its annual trade deficit plus its annual domestic net private savings. That sum represents the nation’s consumption of foreign goods plus its private after-tax savings, a necessary source of investment for growth. Therefore, that sum is directly proportional to the nation’s prosperity, that which trumps all taxes, sustains its social health, and encourages its youth, perhaps the most important element of its defense.

So, preparing our defense with maximum effort is also our best economic policy, as proven by the decades of post-war prosperity created by our huge World War II deficit spending on salaries that were saved as “War Bonds”, eventually cashed in for homes, cars, and kids, creating the prosperous suburbs that now flourish all over America. Ask your grandmother!

For free healthcare for all and for free education at all levels, elect Social Democrats! © 2018

Michigan has got some excellent lakes (and you're not too far from the border.. Why not try your luck with some northern fish )..

I agree with your statement... The internet has changed how we interact and learn... Also, it is probably responsible for Adding milluons of pounds to people's waistlines

Hey, Kyle I’m James. I read an abundance of sci-fi and fantasy. I also do a lot of history research and reading. I like virtually anything by Alan Dean Foster or Larry Niven or L.E.Modesitt. I didn’t grow up with a television in the house and did grow up on a small cattle farm out in the country. About all I had available for my time was working and reading so I learned to appreciate a great diversity in authors. I’d just like to say how much I appreciate your calm voice on here and your thoughtful posts and responses to some less kind members of our little family.

A pleasure to meet you James...

May I assume by your moniker that you are also of Scottish decent?
I'm a Mckay myself... Sixth generations Canadian, but have never forgotten my roots

I am a huge Niven fan... Although some of his newer stuff is iffy... I love that he went back to fantasy... Burning City was simply excellent...

The OPP sure is a family... And we do get carried away at times... But there is a lot of love here too...

Hope all is well and look forward to heaeing from you in the future

I started off with comic books, moved to western paperbacks, then detective books like Sherlock Holmes, love anything about history, world or national. Gradually moved to science, medical discoveries, religion, and ancient archeology that can't be explained very well. Basically, anything that makes my curiosity light bulb go off. The Bible is my number one, all-time favorite, I keep discovering new connections and insight all the time. It never grows stale. Two recent items I found are the (EGR) Early Growth Response gene to possibly regrow limbs and health and detecting early Alzheimer's by looking at the blood vessels of the retina which is considered part of the brain. Never tire of learning and being amazed. Now if I could just figure out how to monetize all the factoids I know. I could finally buy a small spread with a couple of good horses and a couple of good dogs and ride off into the sunset a happy man.

My wife loves the Holmes books as well...
I enjoy them..

The author escapes me at the moment l, but he wrote "a short history of everything" and it is an excellent read... Perhaps you could do something along that line?
