I think its stupid but NYC is dealing with a mayor who kowtows to animal rightists. That's whats behind this. Its not about saving anything. DiBlasio also tried to ban horse carriages in Central Park. NYC can expect more of this lunacy unless they give him the boot he deserves.

Maybe all these C*****e C****e loonies should stop driving big cars and live in huge houses if they care about Climate so much...Take Subway,or walk...Or bike to work, then i would believe you that youcare about c*****e c****e...Otherwise, forget it!!!....

The mayor is an i***t. I would agree if he had "suggested" to schools to offer meatless meals, but to make it a law.... I guess he does not realize that the more roughage a person consumes the more flatulence the body expels.... so, is he really saving the world with his effort? I do agree that we consume too much fatty meats that contribute to bad health.... but, his direction will be met with resistance starting with children going back to bag lunches packed at home with foods that may be worse for them than a hamburger that is hot and balanced with fruits (tomatoes) and vegetables (pickles, onion, and so forth). Seems to me that his "study" group did not think this through.

Fifteen Brooklyn public schools tried it and reportedly liked it. Now, “meatless Mondays” will be served up in lunchrooms across the city.

When it’s time for lunch and students at P.S. 130 in Kensington, Brooklyn chow down comes in all sorts of deliciousness

“Grilled cheese, baked beans, clementine, carrots,” 12-year-old Eliza Secki said.

Did you pick you up on what’s not down on these trays? Meat! It’s a meatless Monday.

“I’m a vegetarian so I think it’s really nice to have meatless Monday,” the Brooklyn student added.

“Some people say I want my chicken nuggets, but they serve that on other days,” 14-year-old Ella Rindler said.

Probably are already forbidden to bring food from home. Maybe the schools could provide tuna salads. Or maybe the parents could stand up to diBlasio for the good of their children. We must stand up against would be tyrants FOR our children.

My daughters youngest boy was reprimanded for bringing a bag lunch and instructed to eat only what the school provided.. big fight with my little girl but she did accept a lunch from home menu, than gave it up and went with the school lunch because her boy liked it.

School is private church school so kind of tyrannical..

I agree! It's about control. Food choices are personal and the government needs to stay out of it. That kind of action, where the government starts to dictate even what we can eat on what day, is just a foot in the door for the next stupid thing they think up to try to take over our lives. The lesson from Michelle's big FAIL should be fresh enough in their minds not to even try it.

What I eat is my choice and not for any government entity to decide. Step away from my plate! You might get forked!

when I was a grade school kid in a very small town school, we had creamed salmon every Friday to accommodate the Catholics who could not eat meat on Friday..

To be honest with you,,, on this subject I mostly agree with you. the school menu should be the job of a cook/dietitation... and health should be the only object..

all that said, could meat less be effort to reduce costs.. I did not look into it so have no idea..

If the effort is to cut costs then he will be in for a rude awaking. Fresh fruits/vegetables are much more expensive than putting condiments/vegetables on a hamburger. After the passage of the Bioterrorism Act of 2002 and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) of 2011, prices have skyrocketed. Product categories likely to see price increases this year include dairy products (+3% to +4%), fresh vegetables (+2.5% to +3.5%), fresh fruit (+2% to +3%). He may be trying to get around this by using "processed" fruits and vegetables. This would reduce cost, but would also reduce vitamin and mineral benefits. The mayor's law does not require "fresh" food, only meatless foods.

Maybe DiBlasio should have every day meatless. Then he could squeeze another couple of days of life out of Mother Earth.

I do not know where you live Penny, but up in this end of Minnesota if you buy meat at any of the many stores, it is much more expensive that the equal amount of fruits/vegetables . or I should say equivalent amount..

We provide less and less of our own meat and vegs each year now.. but we shop in so many different stores even I get a close look at cost..

We get most produce at new store up here, Aldi.. also visit a bunch just in case my dear wife finds something she did not know we needed..

So, Target, Walmart, and county market all get a look..

Stupidist thing I've ever heard. How are we going to get rid of all of these farting cows if everybody doesn't eat their fair share?
I'm gonna get fat if folks don't step up to the plate!
It's just like beer, there's a certain amount that needs to be drunk every day, and I can't keep pulling the weight for the slackers!
