Trump claims he didn't say “Tim Apple,” called the report “f**e news.” Trump also claims he said “Tim Apple” on purpose.

There are several things about this minor gaffe and unnecessary cover up to hide it that are troubling. Why bother is the main question. It was an inconsequential slip of the tongue where most people would just laugh and correct themselves. No big deal. Yet Trump makes it a big deal. Trump very clearly, unmistakably, can be heard on the tape saying “Tim Apple,” but he claims he said Tim's last name Cook very quickly and the media ignored it. Is his ego that tender? Now he claims he said it on purpose to be succinct. What should have been a nothing-burger the president himself conflates the event into a story, his directly contrary claims making him look absurd. He has done this before.

Throughout his campaign he said nine times before large crowds and recorded that he had no business dealings with Russia. When Cohen admitted to lying before Congress and said trump did have dealings with Russia all the way up to his nomination, the president called him a liar. Then changed the story again in this tweet from 11/30/18: “Against all odds, I decide to run for President & continue to run my business-very legal & very cool, talked about it on the campaign trail...” He lied about it, not talked about it, on the campaign trail repeatedly. Essentially the same type of lies, counter-lies, and contrary claims with the Stormy Daniels story: didn't know about it, knew about it but Cohen acted on his own using his own money, he made a check but not a campaign violation, and so on.

Which lies of his do you decide to take as t***h? If as the above paragraphs relate that he has directly contradicted himself on record, do you take his two or maybe three totally opposite accounts all as true?

Thank you, this is the point I have been trying to relay. This forum has become a h**e platform. As you state, no opening for civil debate. However, they are waiting for one of us to reply so they can further their attacks. It was a slip. Who has not made one ? So now we get into 1984 where we have to be careful of each word we use and what we say ? I left this forum for about a year, came back and see that nothing has changed. ADMIN may deem this civil discourse. It is h**e and anyone that tries to reason or offer differing opinions is shut down. This forum is becoming nothing more than for all those here that h**e Trump to post. They live in an echo chamber. Each trying to outdo the other in their hatred. Feeding off each others posts. H**e is consuming. At some point, there is nothing more to h**e. Then the Piranhas start attacking and eating each other.

Um, it is not a debate: it is a proven fact duly recorded and made in public of Trump's ongoing and ridiculous duplicity that either goes unquestioned or defended by his solid base, who in turn call such obvious and verified observations "f**e news" from "h**ers" and then call the observer a Libtard or some other insult. You have all the evidence here at OPP. My thread was an excellent start to civil debate over how and why such observations can be ignored, defended, or attacked when there is clear evidence to the contrary. The point is for those willing to discuss this phenomenon in a sane and rational way.

Sorry, you are doing exactly what I said his "solid base" would do: defending Trump's verifiable lies as just coming from "h**ers" and not concerned citizens who find his behavior a disgrace to the this nation and the presidency. And the opening for Civil debate is not to accuse the other side of just being "h**ers" but to listen to what they present. A president that constantly not just lies but openly flaunts his disrespect for the public by f**grant contrary accounts of his words and actions. That does not trouble you?

You preen about civil debate and say this: "This forum is becoming nothing more than for all those here that h**e Trump to post. They live in an echo chamber. Each trying to outdo the other in their hatred." That is your idea of civil? Lump all who question or criticize Trump as just "h**ers"? Do not listen to these petty and jealous fools who dare report the president tried to cover up his mistake?

You just do not get it and appear to have no clue that you just don't get it. You said, "It was a slip. Who has not made one?" I clearly stated it was just a slip and should have been no big deal. The president himself made it a big deal by first blaming the media's report as "f**e news" and then changing his story entirely to say he did it on purpose. Is it possible for you to see a conflict there? How to cut through your prejudice for the Left?

The slip was an extremely minor thing, but Trump's--again, totally verifiable and obvious--contradictory explanations have to be seen for what they are: untrustworthy actions.

I agree that there are posters on both sides who just want to spew vitriol without engaging in any true debate...

I am fairly new to the OPP...

Lol, being coy or sarcastic, only if you were of course, does not suit you. However, there is no such thing as unbiased debate, not entirely. We would have to be gods to be totally objective, and then what good would we be to humans? Yet we can honestly attempt to hold our blistering or blind passions at bay to respectfully listen and in earnestness look to resolve our differences. Yet a bias is needed as a patriot: country above party.

Some may take take their blistering and blind passions for what they believe is patriotism because their ideas, values, and beliefs are the only right ones. Why bother to listen to those who do not share what is considered right and just? They are the enemy. And when both sides become firmly entrenched in this view of each other, what happens to we the people and America? It gets torn apart and destroyed by such perverse and selfish patriotism

The gods were as biased as any in most mythologies... The Greek gods in particular...

I understand your bias... I have mine...
But you have claimed any number of times to seek more civil dialogue on the OPP...

See, I know that the gods in most mythologies were jerks and highly biased: I had an excellent private school education. My point, which you appear to undermine, about being gods objectively ruling Earth is false, misses the need for a human bias and not other worldly supposed objectivity and laws, which cannot properly assess us.

And as I have stated, I found my thread to be civil. But you, contrary to your previous post saying that is was civil, seem now to question that civility. It would be nice if you just, er, civilly, responded to the post. And telling me "It starts with oneself" is an obvious insult. Or do you think that I am really that ignorant?

My first to responses to you were sarcasm..
An attempt to remind you that you often call for civility and rationality in others...
Your post could have provoked debate... Then you and Kevyn decided to make derisive remarks towards anyone who may have attempted to discuss the thread...

I was agreeing with you concerning the gods...

I don't think you are ignorant... Rather well read actually...
But you have a tendency to be hypocritical at times... And to misinterpret comments...
