Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, song by nearly anyone, even by Lucy Ricardo or Homer Simpson, moves the heart to the praise and joy in God. It is irresistible to me. Moth to a flame. The frame of Hallelujah repeated over and over again was all I needed to feel that light and love of God grow and fill me. Loved singing it! Then I looked for the lyrics. Here they are:

Did you know that Bob Dylan recorded this song back in the 80s? Every Sabbath (Saturday) it is broadcast at 2am by the Israeli defense force's radio channel.... Interesting song...

I prefer the Jeff Buckley version personally, the first 2 verses are the same, it veers after that with different lyrics.

Whoever wrote the song didn't know the Bible.

It was David who saw Uriah's wife bathing.
It was Delilah who cut Samson's hair.

As for repetition, read Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

The accepted song is the one you posted.... but, 10 years after he wrote that one... (Stranger music 1993), he produced the song with totally different lyrics. I like the one you posted well enough, but it takes a strong voice to do it justice. I heard it performed at the Mormon Tabernacle in DC during their Christmas performance... the choir did a very fine job. Perhaps I am just looking for the same perfection in other performers.

I am amazed. Your picture irritates me so much, I rarely read anything you write. What I have read, I disagree w/ but I bless you for sharing this.

I played in The Atlanta Chamber Orchestra for years. Way back then, classical religious songs were accepted as some of the greatest music ever written. I can assure you it is some of the hardest to play. I can’t think of a one where a missed note would not ruin the whole performance.
