My day didn't work out

I got up this morning and bundled up-getting ready for work. It rained 2 inches since yesterday but I still have to get a roof on a house. It' my job and what I do best. This winter has been bleak working by the hour remodeling and only bringing home enough to survive. I have roof packages sitting at 4 different houses waiting for me to get them done. That's a lot of money I have tied up-I don't care who you are and I gotta get it all quick. The government and insurance companies don't care what the situation is they want their money and don't care if you live or die. Well I take off in my pickup and drive a couple hundred yards and--Dammit ! the culvert from a creek going under the road had plugged for the first time I have lived out here and I had deep water going over the road. Well I am the president of the road district so I had to do something. I Got hold of our local fire department and they sent an engine and a tender out to blast that culvert clear. Took about 4 hours. I came home soaked to the bone. The whole time I was trying to help I was also being threatened with a lawsuit for flood damage and of course the "Experts" had to come out and tell me every thing that the road district was doing wrong. I am an elected public official and I have to keep my cool and address people as human beings and It really puts me to task at times. People think politics is easy and they don't see the whole picture. They only see the surface of an issue and expect action. I have to get board members to agree on situations and remidys and work with people who are unhappy and or unwilling to understand that I am on their side and doing the best that I can for them and the rest of the residents out here. I am a volunteer and all winter long I am shoveling gravel cleaning ditches-replacing road signs -and clearing windfalls and brush Most of time by myself and I am still not doing enough. They'll appreciate me when they lose me. I am up for another 4 year term and want to quit but I have two green board members with zero experience that I can't throw to the wolves.. You think politics is a buncha hooey--Try being a politician

I'm almost tempted to drive out there and help you get those roofs completed.

And you could show me where the best fishin' holes are.

I would love to have you. .I'm semi retiring this year and I do have to catch up on my fishing. I would thoroughly enjoy hunting some of those nice Texas muleys

Pick me up on the way if you don't mind. I'll do the middle, and tops of the roofs. You can have the bottom part. I'm a ground squirrel, but I'd get up high to help ole Tom!

How about some hogs, Tom?
