back in the 80s pres. r.reagan thought letting 3 million ignorant peons ( i.e. wetbacks) from mexico over our southern border as citizens was a good thing. in his mind-- justified because annually they provided many hands and strong backs for farm work necessary to feed our nation. but, as time and the situation shows, one of the worst decisions he ever made (teacher in space the next worst) since opening this door, it has never been shut and it set a very bad precedent-- irreversible!! also, the southern wall to follow he was promised by congress never materialized !! now, some 35 years later the Donald is now faced with Reagan's major error and the consequences !!!

You are very correct, and this is what comes from "trusting" Congress to follow through on "promises." He was faced with rising levels of i*****l i*********n, and that (just like many other times after) led him to sign onto a policy that has decimated our nation. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) provided amnesty for 3 million i******s, in return he was promised increased border security and penalties for companies "knowingly" hiring i*****l i*******ts. Aside from creating the H-2A visa for seasonal employment, IRCA failed to create new avenues for legal immigration. The combination of amnesty and inadequate avenues for legal immigration exacerbated the problem of i*****l i*********n.

The laws was supposed to be a comprehensive solution with provisions intended to clamp down on border security. These provisions were never enforced, and the subsequent explosion in illegal crossings has resulted in some 21 million i*****l a***ns (according to some) living in the United States today. An estimated 1.8 million i*****l i*******ts a number that is incorrect, are currently residing in Texas, compared with 1.1 million in 2000. In ten years, that represents an increase of 54 percent, or 70,000 persons each year coming to our state illegally.

The Simpson-Mazzoli immigration bill was a Trojan Horse. But, Progressive Democrats are loath to acknowledge the inexcusable lapse of judgment, because it does mean a higher v**er turn out for Democrats. This is part of the reason they fight the wall and even tighter controls on v**er identifications.

True and inaction by the Progressives won't do anything but make it worse. Trump is the first President who has taken this crisis head on. Makes one wonder why Progs are fighting him so hard; must be more to it than they just don't like him huh?

Oh? And how would you have done things differently if you were Trump?

This topic is not really about President Trump. It is about the horrible injustice done to US citizens by President Regan... who was duped into signing a provision that has been part of campaigns for over 33 years. I******s have been used by Progressive hand wringers each time an e******n appears to being going toward Republicans. Republicans have used them to promote fear. I******s have become pawns, and if you play chess you know that pawns are used as sacrifice to save the king or queen.... insignificant in the end game. They simply clutter the board, are a distraction, and block movement in the direction of a winning game.

Did we need i******s in 1986? No. Those given special treatment did exactly what i******s do today.... they head for cities and blend in, they buy "paperwork" and bona fide resumes belonging to others so they can either qualify for jobs or for welfare. President Regan was "banking" on promise which were essentially "fools gold." Of course, he was a Californian who often sided (as they still do) with i******s over the interests of US citizens.

That is part of the reason that Trump is receiving such push back from the democrats, and that is because they know Trump means business, and will do as he says, and it won't be lip service like it was before. They know that he will build the wall, and they are scared silly because they don't have a large enough base to gain power in Washington, and they know it, Trump knows it, and they know that Trump knows it.

I agree with you! When you have been "dealing" for years, you can spot the half t***hs, lies, and f**e promises. President Trump has spent a life time dealing with these kinds of people. He may bend or fall back to a different road, but in the end he will accomplish what he sees is right. At this time, I fully believe that he has us, the citizens of the USA, best interest in mind.... and we need to address immigration, but before we can we have to stop the flow. Just like a plumber, we can not fix the problem as long as the flow continues.

He is a mix.... as far as I can determine he is a mix of Arabian Mau and a Maine Coon. Naturally, he was abandoned.... probably because of his size and he was somewhat aggressive when found. It took months to earn his trust. He is now a lazy lap cat, about a harmful as a baby. He is also quite the talker.... and spends much of his time "talking", sometimes too loudly, to my Maine Coon... another rescued and unadoptable cat..... both have feline v***s.

I am determined to give them a loving life until they succumb to kidney or liver failure, then they will be held and petted when the end comes. For now, they eat, play, chase each other and wake me from (my opinion) well deserved naps. Both sleep with me (toe warmers), the Maine Coon loves to get in the shower and goes fishing with me, catch and release, unless he gets a hold of them first. The one in the avatar, he hangs out at the fireplace.... and insists on "approving" all visitors.... he also steals my toast in the morning. Both, characters! Love these big guys.... and it may come as a surprise, but many "positive" cats live as long as those uninfected. In the last years, they will have medications to help them along, and they will let me know when they are at their end... but for now they are just playful really big cats. To prevent the spread of the v***s, I keep them separate from other rescued kittens.... which seems to suite them quite well as they prefer the luxury of living with their human inside a warm house.

No problem.... as you know, I do animal rescue and have some unique furry, and not so furry, friends that live on the farm. Some.... well, this is their last home. Many, however, I find good forever homes.... very rewarding.
