Senate Dems introduce bill to prevent Trump from using disaster funds to build wall

A group of Senate Democrats, including several 2020 contenders, have introduced legislation that would prevent President Trump from using disaster relief funds to finance a wall along the southern border.

The “Protecting Disaster Relief Funds Act” would block Trump from taking funds allocated to the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Housing and Urban Development or the Army Corps of Engineers for disaster relief and using that money to construct physical barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The article goes on to state the following:

The Democrats backing the bill include several senators who have already entered the p**********l race — Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) — as well as Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is reportedly on the verge of making his announcement.

Harris said in a statement announcing the legislation that Trump “cannot go around Congress to fund his ridiculous vanity project.”

“I’m proud to introduce this bill today to ensure that funds intended for victims of natural disasters do not go towards a wall that Congress won’t fund and people on the border don’t even want,” she added. “This bill will stand up for Congress’ power of the purse and help California families affected by recent natural disasters begin the process of recovery.”

He's not taking disaster funds in any case. In fact he specifically stated he would NOT use any disaster relief funds. But DHS is the department CBP, Coast Guard, ICE, and other agencies fall under. The main source of the $8 billion is coming from drug enforcement. And since the need to stop drug infiltration is one of the major reasons to build the wall, it is not even really a reallocation of funds.

If they would have just negotiated, this would not have happened. It is the Democrats fault that the President needs to take this route. Talk about obstruction, this bill was full of obstructions!!! These people need to be removed from office!!!

The Republicans are not off the hook either!!! The Republicans let them put the obstructions in that deal and v**ed for it when they easily could have made them remove it all or not v**ed for it.

Exactly. With the dim's, it's not about policy at all but Trump. They are still in denial that he carried the people and states that mattered in his stunning defeat of Shillary, making obstructionism the only game they have. I'm not at all worried that after the court challenges make their way to SCOTUS, his 'emergency powers act' will be ruled Constitutional, and construction of the wall will be delayed a bit.
