Because of the exact method by which the medication works. Many who believe that life begins at conception consider the morning after pill to be an abortifacient. Some also have the same objection to lo dose birth control pills.

This is because pregnancy is prevented by two primary methods . First, if the body's regulatory hormonal chemistry is tricked and the ovaries do not produce an egg waiting to be fertilized there can be no pregnancy for that cycle.

Secondarily, similarly to the primary action of the morning after pill, many birth control pills cause the lining of the uterus to be made unreceptive to implantation by the unlikely egg that might be occasionally produced,

which might still have been fertilized and thus be a human child, but which will die without a uterine lining to inplant within.

Some feel that using drugs to make one's uterus so inhospitable to that rare occasional tiny blastocyst so that it wanders off and dies is murder.

Putting that into perspective, about a third of all the human ova that become fertilized, abort themselves naturally, anyway, without any contraceptive action, consent, knowledge or awareness of their parents. The uterus is a tricky and cantankerous organ. The world is a wide, wild place.

You have put together a very thoughtful and considered post. Well done.

I thought that I read that the cost of the morning after pill is around $30.00 to $60.00 depending on your insurance and other factors but still way cheaper than an a******n.

Good point.

There are a little over a million units of Plan-B sold yearly and likely the reason for the steep decline in the rate of a******ns today. I believe this is fairly expensive, $50 or more, so making it more affordable would go along way in increasing its use...

The Kim Kavil .jpg is a fine example of why one should not "judge other people".

I don't get how anyone who is against a******n, the idea of k*****g a fetus...can even equate the idea of preventing a pregnancy at this stage with that.

Not only would this mean tens of thousands less a******ns, but thousands less unwanted pregnancies that end up being a burden to society in terms of welfare.

The thing prevents implantation and so any possible fertilized egg, zygote, or small bundle of cells will be washed away. The crazies are upset about the potential human those cells represent.

It's over the top, of course.

I remember when I was a bundle of cells...
Things were simpler back then...
Next thing I knew along came g*****lia and a working brain (most days)...
Things have gotten difficult...

I once had a real working brain. I kept it in a clear glass specimen jar. Its duties included helping me in demonstrating to people the areas of their own brain that appeared to not be functioning correctly. Unfortunately many people found that brain to be too threatening, and slightly creepy. So I purchased a plastic one that needed no jar filled with preservatives and stuff and which could be taken apart to illustrate the inner workings of the deeper brain structures. Folks seemed to be more comfortable with that.

The brain in the jar retired to the country to live out the rest of its life on a farm.

We Orthodox have an even better method. Men place a small stone in each shoe. It makes them limp!

To responsible adults, those for example who marry, those who bring the real type of Godly love into their marriage, children are never a burden to them or to society. On the other hand when materialism is the greatest measure of happiness it's not difficult I suppose to put this selfish purpose ahead of everything else. I've known many poor people who were happier and more secure than wealthy folks.

I wonder if there are still college kids who work (forgive please that four letter word,"work") their way thru college like we used to?

I also know that there are a lot of responsible adults out there that would love to adopt and give the child the love and care it deserves. They are truly heartbroken over these a******n bills as they see there chances of happiness in raising an infant going down the tube. Many of them would come to the Hospital and sign the papers and even pay for the bills if only they could get a chance at adopting a child.

Indeed it was lame. My first and last attempt at humor today. I had my first experience with gout this weekend and I need to metaphorically k**l something to get even but I will not kick them to death with my right foot. That would be suicide!
