A person works their entire life, paying taxes on their earnings and capital gains, and in YOUR sick SJW world, that person can't leave a legacy to his heirs because the government has to tax it again and re-distribute that person's hard earned wealth? The existing estate tax allows spouse to keep over 10 million with no tax. individuals it is 5 million..

the tax shelters from the 50s and other times for the most part still exsist and most have become more inclusive..

Free markets seldom exist in today world, they must be in balance on both sides to work, the Business in the market do all they can to keep the market tilted in their favor..

Consider this.... tax in the US pays for service recieved..

If you are in a positiion that gets more service then the average, you should indeed be willing to pay more.

When you buy more of, or a better product, you expect and are willing to pay the greater amount to cover the improved service or produce..

So it follows that when you receive more value from a service, (govt programs) you are willing to pay more.

that is a capitalistic rule, more value costs more money..

If you admire Capitalistic economy, you should have no problem with the concept..

A graduated taxation makes obvious sense both in the short and long term..

We are now suffering from the lose of that graduation.. but it is a long subject and deserves a thread of its own.. start one if you wish..

You do not specify but I will assume (yes i know) that you are talking about the estate tax..

Jefferson and his buddies wanted this type of tax in order to prevent building the aristocracy as Europe had developed.. Passing down the full fortune make a family with more resources then the small govt of the US could match.. that would hand control from the democracy/republic the founders envisioned to a few very rich who could do as the wished and ignore the welfare of the nation..

As the tax exists in the US today, I can not understand why people bother to address it at all..

clearly you do not want any civil programs and have low regard of the govt bureaucracy.. I can not convert you on that, but I feel any large group of workers will have plenty of both good and bad individuals.

As to the programs themselves, they do not all fit in a single category so we would have to consider them one by one..

I feel most of these programs are well worth having, but think waist in every part of government projects and programs is rampant..

successful cutting of costs should be a must, but not simply ending of the programs..

BTW, why would the Govt. have to earn the tax money we pay each year??

the service we demand has a cost, a high cost in my view.. we need to pay or do without and no profit programs do not attract private investment. Or they would be private funded long ago..

but the number of unneeded spending on the wealthy is unending..






In the real world only a very few are affected by the estate tax.. we do have plenty of tax to b***h about, but this one only affects about 1% or less and the vast majority of us are not ever affected by it..
