Background:

Earlier today I was eating lunch with two friends of mine, a Muslim man and a Hindu girl from India (no idea which part), and we were discussing how Hindus and Muslims interact in their country....

While we were conversing a young man from Russia (Jewish, from Moscow, studying logistics in the university that I work for) came into the coffee shop... He had just returned from a brief trip to Indonesia (visiting an internet friend of all things... Scary how stupid young people are) and came over to say hello..

Hearing me joke about him visiting the largest Muslim population country in the world and the dangers involved (he claimed to have had an excellent time... the friend really was a young woman ) my Muslim friend asked him about Islamaphobia in Russia... This then continued on to a discussion on anti-semitism in their respective countries... Both made some interesting claims and it became a rather provocative discussion...

After a while I had to leave... But the conversation has been in my mind all evening..

So...
For my "Definitions" post this week I would like to invite the members of the OPP to give their personal definitions of the terms 'anti-semitism' and 'islamaphobia'...
I would further encourage members to define what indications there would be that an individual was either 'anti-semitic' or 'islamaphobic'...

My thanks in advance to all the members who take the time to share their understanding...

Why did you exclude anti-Christian in the discussion?

I was more of an observer than a participant in their discussion...
Good point though...
I will make that next week's "definitions"...

As long as it is your personal understanding...

In order to get a definitive view on Islamophobia and antisemitism, you will need to narrow your scope. In many places in the world, people are neither Islamophobic or antisemitic. These individuals would rightly argue that both are myths. So, are you speaking of the American definition, the Palestinian, Russian, Israeli, Arabic, and so forth, or the world in general. A world view is driven by the attitudes of media owners, managers, and the current perceived populars views. It is also driven by how much support the individual groups can marshal for their individual cause. In other words, how much funding can be realized to produce propaganda. Are you searching for individual opinion, that too is driven on many possibilities... religion, region, whether a person lost a loved one in the War, on 911; it is also driven by how exposed they are to islam, muslims, or Jews. Are you looking for a historic view or the view after 911? Are you treating antisemitism as a "Jewish" issue, as it appears in the framing of your inquiry. Frankly, your scope is beyond the allocation of both space and time.

Nothing more or less than one's personal definitions...
I am certain different individuals, having lived different lives with different experiences, will have different definitions...
How do you define these terms?

'Definitions "Anti-semitism and Islamaphobia"'

Quite a complex subject.

On "islamaphobia"
A term used with political overtones used by the "Left"/Liberal media to describe anti-Muslims/Moslems.

On "anti-Semitism"
A term used with political overtones used by the "Left & Right"/MSM to describe anti-Jews.
Something I have written extensively on:
IMO: "anti-Semitism" is a term used by many to hide behind.

I add the following regarding “Jews” so all “Jews” are not lumped together:
Z*****m is a political movement, and C*******m is a tool they used.
All Jews are not Z*****ts, and all Z*****ts are not Jews.
It is important to differentiate the different brands/sects of "Jew". The term "Jew" is misused a lot, fraudulently, and confusingly.
Judah is one of the 12 tribes of Israel. A Race (Hebrew)
Judaism is a religion (Torah/Old Testament and Talmudic/Babylonian Rabinism)
Jews are also a nationality (Nation of Israeli)
All categories attempt to claim they are the chosen people. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Many hide behind that claim. Most fundamentalist Christian churches don't teach the differences, and fall for that misrepresentation.
Hence, we have impotent churches, and ignorant Christians, that are not aware of the enemies of God/Yahweh within our nation.
Think about who has been trying to drive God out of public education and the public square?
Atheists? Who do you think these atheists are?
The ACLU and the anti-Defamation League (ADL) for starters.

BTW;
The above causes problems of missing the t***h, by lumping them all together.

For what purpose? You will get one of three responses; people will respond with the politically correct response, they will provide the response they believe you want (depending on your relationship), or you will get the 'Devil's Advocate' who will provide the opposite of what they believe your or other OPP responders believe.

Why don't you start this off with your 'personal' definition and how you arrived to your view?

The first part I understood...
The second part differentiating the 'Jews' I am a little less sure if I follow...

What indications would an individual display that fall under your definitions of 'anti-semitism' and 'Islamaphobia'?

In my other 'Definitions' posts I have explained...
I don't offer my own views...
I am not looking to debate....
I am looking to learn from others...
There are terms that vary greatly between cultures and communities and individuals...
By listening to what others have to share I am able to better understand the terms...

I may ask questions of a member who posts an answer... But not for the purpose of debate... Simply to learn...

And I welcome all members to post their personal definitions...
Why should they post anything except that?

Could you define the terms from your personal perspective?
