I am fascinated with Christians. Yes, utterly fascinated! I deal with all kinds of people, some nice and some not so nice; Muslim, Jew, Christian and the hundreds of the variation of those religions, same goes for the multi-topologists. Some are very nice people and some are horrible. Now back to my fascination with the Christians. You have laws and rules, I know this is true because I study! I have a number of questions for a few folks on this site, and I am sure that you know who you are. Yes, I may be considered wrong for this. But, this is for those who claim to be a Christian. For you that are atheist or agnostic, I do not expect, but would welcome your input.

Do you think that gossip is a sin? Just recently, I read that Mr. Rogers wore sweaters to cover up his tattoos from his military days. Now is that gossip? No? Just a rumor, when does a rumor become gossip? Then I read, “in an PM to me she said…….” By definition, PM stands for private message. Unless you are directing your comment directly to that person, is that gossiping? Then there are the scores of things written and applauded by so many on OPP that relate to Obama or Bush and some go even further back to talk about the lives, and I am not talking about their political lives, but personal things pertaining to past presidents. Is that gossip? Brings to mind, a few words from the bible:
Leviticus 19:16 – “Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.” (NIV)
Proverbs 11:13 – “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.” (NIV)
Romans 1:29 – “They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.” (NIV)
1 Timothy 5:13 – “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.” (NIV)
Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (NIV)
Proverbs 18:8 – “The words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.” (NIV
Proverbs 26:20 – “Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.” (NIV)
Deuteronomy 13:14 – “Then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly.” (NIV)
Matthew 7:12 – “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” (NIV)

Without gossip, smartphones, face book and twitter would have no value.

I have a facebook account, I see that people share stories about themselves and their family. I guess my question is, where is the line in your opinion between sharing your life and gossiping about what other people do or say. Just curious.
Thank you for your input. I know that it is not easy to put an honest reply out on an open forum.
