The US Coast Guard is telling families left without paychecks and drowning in bills because of the government shutdown to consider holding yard sales or even declaring bankruptcy as last-ditch ideas to make ends meet.

The tip sheet from the Coast Guard’s Support Program also suggests babysitting, dog walking or getting a side gig as a part-time shopper to make do as President Trump’s government shutdown rolls into its third week.

“Finding supplemental income during your furlough period might be challenging,” the five-page document advises. “If late or missed payment become a reality, let your creditors know.”

“Bankruptcy is a last option,” it later adds. ‘You should consider all other options first.”

The tip sheet was first uncovered by the Washington Post and was removed from the Coast Guard website after the newspaper asked questions.

The suggestions do not “reflect the Coast Guard’s current efforts to support our workforce during this lapse in appropriations,” Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Scott McBride told the broadsheet. “As such, this guidance has been removed.”

The government has been shut down for 20 days after Trump said he would reject any spending bill that did not include funding for his controversial border wall.

You could always turn your eyes from Trump to Pelosi and Schummer if you really want to know who doesn't give a crap about "we the people", unborn babies, the rule of law, equal justice, or the coast guard. They can cave quickly or not, but they will cave. They lied to Reagan and they will lie again. They simply aren't trustworthy. They should have taken Trump's first offer, and where did Obama get all those pallets of cash he sent Iran? Curious people want to know.

The link is correct. Try the original thread post link, not a partial one from a subsequent posting.

Maybe...and I hope so...but, near the middle of the month-old article it starts with the following...

"Ray noted in his message that the funding work-around will not apply to the next scheduled pay period on Jan. 15, if the shutdown continues until then," and continues on in that vein.....

So, come Monday, we shall see.

Long time, no see! How ya been? Good, I hope!!
Also, it crossed the short yardage of my mind to wonder if they're gonna have gas money for their boats, and helicopters, and stuff because of this political pissing contest.

WOW! these poor poopers. They may have a years vacation and in the end get a paid vacation for a whole year. When the plant U worked closed, did U get a full years pay? Stop being a PITA & get real. Pettty, petty whining.

I am seriously amazed! At the salaries federal workers are paid, THEY CAN'T SET ASIDE AT LEAST 30 DAYS SUSISTANCE. HELL I DID THAT SINCE I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL and continued through my ten years as a marine from pfc through SSGT. With a family to care for. And after discharge for my civilian life we always were one to three months ahead of the curve. Maybe I just didn't buy and extend my debt limit beyond my ability to pay.

I agree.

I did a hitch in the Coast Guard back in the 1970s, when the pay was less, and came out with a few thousand saved.

Then there's the fact that a lot of people, especially in the media, are making it seem like all federal employees are now writhing on the ground in the rictus of starvation, evicted from their homes, all hope lost.

Right.

Just saw on local news where the two largest local banks here are helping with those who are about to miss a paycheck.
This isn't the apocalypse.
