The really stupid aspect of all this is that government does not need to shut down. The government does not run out of money just because a budget is not passed. Tax revenues keep rolling in. There is plenty of money to keep government open. The ONLY spending that must be curtailed is BORROWING! Without a budget that allows additional borrowing, the government cannot spend money that it doesn't have. That would be like a family who has their credit cards cut up; they must learn to live within their means. Oh what a terrible thought, the government living within their means. I think that it would be great to go a year without a budget or a continuing resolution. Require the government to spend only what revenues come in. That means cutting back on frivolous spending, the pork barrel stuff that they all do to support their constituents and v**es. The rest of us all have to live within our means; we can't pile up credit card debt endlessly. Make the government operate like the rest of us.
