He wouldn't be doing it that way with pinyon pine! I split 3 cords several years ago with a splitting maul. Pinyon has an impressive amount of BTUs but it's some twisty stuff and hard as hell compared with other stuff to split.

Lodgepole and willow splits into very straight pieces.

I got a wood splitter at a yard sale 4 or 5 years ago...a Montgomery Ward wood splitter. Oooooold.

It has an 8 hp Briggs and Stratton...gravity fed.

Rebuilt the carb twice and now it's unrebuildable. A new one is over $300! More than I paid for the splitter to begin with...

...so I went to Harbor Freight and got a brand new Predator motor for $229 or thereabouts.

I took the hydraulic cylinder in and had it rebuilt last year so it's more or less new.

Thought you probably had a splitter as much as you mention your wet woodpile, ha. Or you could have an old hit and miss engine cranking away splitting wood. I was just being funny and thought you'd get a smile from it.
