My family had the tradition of taking down the tree on the Epiphany, J****** 6th, and opening presents Christmas morning: how about you?

I grew up in the 50s and 60s. We were very mainstream in how this holy day was to be celebrated. Or maybe not. We did not decorate the tree until Christmas Eve night. We had to make our own Christmas cards for the family. The youngest got to put the first decoration. The eldest got to place baby Jesus in the manger. We had a whole winter scene under the tree. There was a mirror as a frozen pond with two ice skaters surrounded by snowy white cotton, that we made into a "hill" for a couple of skiers. A little village that lit up and was covered in "snow." All those things were my father's job. And every year there was a new ornament placed at the top of the tree to honor the family: my mother was in charge of that.

The utter warmth and coziness of these traditions for me as a child and as I grew older were like this link to something steadfast and true, being a part of something greater and eternal. We would forever be this family together praising God.

I remember as a child pawing through a box of ornaments and finding some funny looking star-shaped things with a hole in the center when I asked about them I was told they held candles that before electricity! We opened presents on Christmas Eve not sure when the tree came down when it got to dry I think.
merry Christmas

My father and I (when I was old enough) put up the tree on the forst of the month... We Added ornaments throughout the month and surrounded it with Christmas cards from family and friends... Gifts went under and stayed under until Christmas morning (no shaking or weighing)... Christmas morning we would designate a santa helper. They would hand out the Gifts one by one and we would admire them together... Then we would spend the morning making thank you calls or writing thank you letters...
Even after the divorce my parents made sure to soend Christmas day together as a family... And my father always made an appearance at my uncle's house Christmas Eve...
I miss the smells the most... My mother was never much of a cook , but could bake like aN angel... And Christmas was a time for baking... Every day there were cookies and pies , brownies and fudge , nuts and bolts (mixed dish with peanuts , pretzels , cheerios , and other salty, crunchy goodies)... Most of it went to friends , neighbors or family... But the smells stayed for weeks...
Merry Christmas everyone
